The more we rely on our phones and laptops, the greater the need for power. 

Granted, the humble mobile phone battery is a world away from where it was just a few short years back. And there’s plenty of power in the best laptops to keep us working through the day. 

But what about when we bring gaming into the equation. What happens when we look to head off on some sessions of Game Pass play on our phones, powered by Cloud Gaming. What if we just need to get another session of Forza Horizon 5 in on our lunch break? It’s then when power and battery capabilities come to the fore. 

It’s for that reason why many carry a power bank with them. Whether it’s chucked in a bag, left in the car for times of need, or just sat at home, ready for use, those power banks have fast become necessary bits of kit. 

UGreen bring the power

Generally, the more powerful the power bank, the better too. And that’s where UGreen come in with their 25000mAh, 145W fast charging power bank. This is a hefty, beefy gadget. But it’ll ensure that no matter where you are, and no matter what your need, you will be able to continue gaming or working into the wee hours. 

We’ve covered a good few power banks over the years and would not hesitate in picking up and recommending any of them. But whilst some have fancy texturing and wireless capabilities – hi, Excitrus 100W Magnetic Wireless Power Bank – this UGreen fast charger pretty much does away with fancy ideas. Instead it just ensures you can plug and play, without hassle. And you can even plug and play three devices at once, delivering juice to each should you so wish. 

A big old slab of rectangular technology, the UGREEN 145W Power Bank is a good looking device. Gunmetal grey and black design hues complement each other well and the top side at least screams quality. We’re less taken with the black underbelly. But hey, this is a power bank – when will we ever look at the bottom. 

Slapped with some UGreen logo-ing, there are significant statements dotted all over the power bank. 145W is front and centre, as is exclamation of that huge 25000mAh pack size. Promising ‘More than power’ alongside the tactile power button and LCD display, aesthetically this one pleases. 

Three ports of juicy goodness

But it’s in the actions where it really shines. Three end-placed ports are constantly ready for business, with a USB-C 100W option the big dog. Alongside that is another, slightly slower USB-C capable of pushing out 45W, whilst an old classic USB-A is sandwiched between the two. This gives out the standard 18 watts of power. Make the most of everything this has and UGreen promise to be able to charge a 2022 M2 MacBook Air 13” in some 90 minutes. 

The magic happens when you need multiple devices charged. Any two ports can be used at the same time, delivering their usual outputs, although things are throttled when utilising the slower USB-C and USB-A, knocking things down to 15W speeds apiece. 

Similar takes place if you go all-out with a trio of devices; the 100W uber fast stays present, but the other two max out at the 15W. Honestly, we think you’ll need to be going some to really ever feel the pinch, charging three devices at once. Mostly we’ve just found ourselves hammering on that 100W power output, occasionally dipping into the USB-A port for older devices. 

Charging the UGreen power bank is a cinch too – just stick any old USB-C cable into either port and you’ll find the juice flowing back in at a fair old rate – there are promises of 65W inputs. You can charge the bank whilst powering a device too. The options are endless. Well, not entirely endless, but you get the idea. 

Consistent power outputs

We’ve found power to be utterly consistent throughout our testing over the course of the last month or so, with the UGreen 145W power bank happily on hand whenever the time has called. It’s been ever-present for coffee shop working, but has mostly come into its own whilst keeping charge in our phones – Game Pass mobile sessions absolutely smash a battery but there’s enough juice in this to keep those mobiles powered over and over again. 

That power is immediate too. In fact, as soon as the Ugreen detects a device is connected, it’s auto-powering before you know it. And if you do ever want to just switch it off? A simple double tap of the pleasing power button kills things dead. The fact that the LED charging percentage status switches off, just helps confirm close of play. 

Flight approved (just, we understand the maximum size allowed for many flights is that of 27000mAh in size) and capable of trickle-charging smaller devices, there’s not much to dislike about the UGREEN 145W Power Bank 25000mAh Portable Charger. 

Except for one thing perhaps. This is a properly hefty device. It may feel great in hand, and it may seem small in stature, but there is some serious weight holding those 25000mAh power capabilities together. Is it too heavy? That would be a personal thing entirely, but a recent trip away saw us grabbing for the smaller, more diminutive Excitrus 105w Power Bank Ultimate instead as that felt a better fit for that use scenario. Yes we missed the sheer enthusiasm of power that UGreen are offering, but we figured we could get away with it. 

Is it too heavy?

However, when you consider the size and power it brings, maybe that weight pales into insignificance. For the record, we put the most recent banks we’ve reviewed alongside each other in weight terms. Whilst Excitrus’ smaller 18000mAh battery was considerably lighter at 375 grams, the bigger pack from Excitrus in their 20800mAh 100W device, was heavier at 543 grams. This UGreen 25000mAh 145W bank weighs in at 506 grams. Not too bad then, eh?

With a very short USB-C to USB-C cable packaged in the box allowing for the 100W output, there’s no reason to not be able to get charging straight away with this UGreen power bank. There’s even a soft pouch included too. But if you can easily squeeze the bank into that, then you are a better person than I. It feels just a tad too small and a bit of a waste. 

Ultimately though the UGREEN 145W Power Bank 25000mAh Portable Charger is a great call. Especially true for those needing extra power across a range of devices. This is aesthetically pleasing and capable of delivering a whole ton of power. So if you need something to keep your Game Pass mobile sessions ongoing, or you need to keep laptop charge rocking, there’s very little of concern here.
