EA Sports FC 24

With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, EA Sports FC 24 remains the top seller for a second week in a row. Following last week’s decline, the first EA football title without the FIFA branding gained an additional 29% in sales. Super Mario Bros. Wonder dropped one spot to No. 3 thanks to a 17% jump by Hogwarts Legacy, which reclaimed second place.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 remains No. 4, selling well despite failing to surpass last year’s edition. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the only Sony PlayStation 5 exclusive in the top ten this week, leaped a pair of spots from 7th to 5th place.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, in its second week of sales, fell 53% from No. 5 to No. 12. This decrease is in line with the usual second week of sales, and despite poor critical reception, Ubisoft’s latest open-world title is enjoying strong fan word of mouth.

Nintendo is finishing 2023 strong with Minecraft (Nintendo Switch), Nintendo Switch Sports, and Mario Kart 8 remaining in the back half of the top ten.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, months after the strong debut of Mortal Kombat 1, is back in the top ten thanks to deep discounts on the PlayStation 5. The 62% increase was enough to go from number 14 to 8. Other titles benefiting from discounts include Gran Turismo 7, with a 367% increase to No. 29, while Super Mario Party, Red Dead Redemption 2, and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt also climbed back into the top 40.

NBA 2k24 had the largest single gain of the week, with a 478% sales increase thanks to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch sales, landing at 30th place.

God of War: Ragnarok, at No. 40, experienced renewed interest thanks to the recent Valhalla DLC, introducing a new game mode to the single-player PlayStation 5 exclusive.

Below are the best-selling boxed video games in the UK for the week ending December 16, 2023.
