UK Public Consultations Launching on Gambling White Paper

The UK’s Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) has revealed information about three public consultations regarding the recent government white paper on Gambling Act reform.

the UKGC consultation will focus on financial risk checks

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) will take responsibility for a 12-week consultation. Utilizing feedback from the general public, the gambling industry, academics, and more, the regulator’s consultation will focus on financial risk checks. Tightening up the circumstances in which an affordability check is necessary was one of the biggest proposals included in the white paper.

The DCMS will lead separate consultations regarding restricting bet sizes for online casino games and the proposed changes to laws for land-based gambling facilities. The former will last for eight weeks and the latter will span a ten-week period. The white paper proposes a stake limit of between £2 ($2.58) and £15 ($19.38) for online slots.

Commenting on the public consultations, UKGC Executive Director of Research Tim Miller said that it gives people the chance to have their say on the proposals. He deemed it a key step in turning the white paper commitments into reality.
