Valve Denies Accommodation Coverage for CSGO Coaches in Americas RMR: Report

Today, Joshua “m1cks” Micks, Detonate’s head coach, took to Twitter to express his worry, citing that Valve only covers expenses for five players and not coaches attending RMRs.

This tweet sparked an enormous reaction from the CS:GO community, with numerous coaches and team managers airing their grievances and dissatisfaction with Valve’s decision. Wilton “zews” Prado, Fluxo’s head coach and former Major winner, even went as far as to state that Valve treats coaches like “garbage.”

Dust2.us, a popular CS:GO news website, obtained an information packet given to all teams participating in the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR, which confirmed that coaches attending the RMR in Monterrey, Mexico may have to bear their expenses. The packet revealed that BLAST would only cover accommodation, flights, visas, and catering for the core five roster members. Any additional members, including managers, substitutions, or content staff, would have to cover their own flights and visas.

OG Esports Team Manager Vladyslava Zakhliebina confirmed that Valve has never covered coaches, but instead six individuals. However, it seems that Valve is only covering costs for five players now.

This decision has posed significant challenges for smaller and less well-funded teams, who may struggle to finance their coaches’ attendance at RMRs. With the average hotel rate in Monterrey around $135 per night, the total expenses for attending an RMR could range from $1,200 to $2,200, depending on the specific hotel and flights selected. For organizations with limited resources, this could prove to be a considerable financial burden.

While larger teams with greater financial backing may not face any issues covering these expenses, for smaller and underfunded organizations, this decision could prove to be detrimental. The impact of Valve’s decision to not cover coaches at RMRs on the competitive CS:GO scene in the future remains to be seen.
