VCT LOCK//IN: Fnatic and 100 Thieves set up an explosive quarterfinal series

Four are left but only two will stay.

The VCT LOCK//IN has so far lived up to its expectations of bringing exciting games to São Paulo, Brazil. And it only gets better from here as we head to the endgame portion of the tournament with only six teams left in the tournament. Later today will be the last round of matches for the omega bracket to determine who will be in the semifinals.

The first quarterfinal series will be between Natus Vincere against Leviatán followed by a classic showdown between NA and EU, 100 Thieves versus Fnatic. Na’Vi not only eliminated KRÃœ Esports in the first round, but they also sent home Team Secret, both in 2-0 sweeps. Leviatán also took out the likes of ZETA Division and Team Vitality, which goes to show that the Argentinians deserve to be here.

On the other side of the omega bracket, there was Fnatic who took down both Sentinels and FURIA Esports with a fair amount of ease. 100 Thieves was the only team to have made the tournament hard on themselves, having won against both EDward Gaming and FUT Esports 2-1.

As for the final six teams, only two Latin nations remain in the form of hometown hopefuls and reigning champs, LOUD as well as Argentinian Leviatán. It would make for an exciting grand final if both LOUD and Leviatán were to make it to the end, giving the home crowd the best match-up they could hope for between Argentina and Brazil.

But all eyes will be on the last series of the day as the hopes of North America rests on 100 Thieves’ shoulders. They are the only NA team left in the VCT LOCK//IN with Cloud9 and Evil Geniuses getting eliminated in the second round, NRG in the quarterfinals, and most recently, Sentinels in the first round. 100 Thieves can make history as the first partnered NA team to make it into the semifinals of the new VCT era.

However, in their tracks is Fnatic, who have already sent home one NA team and will be looking to do so again. The last time both teams faced one another was at last year’s VCT Champions where Fnatic sent 100 Thieves home in their group D decider match. The UK-based squad will be looking to replicate that same performance later today and 100 Thieves will have to be wary about this.

Fnatic has already had two top-six finishes in both Copenhagen and Turkey, which shows that the team has what it takes to break through. And given their recent history against 100 Thieves as well as the VCT LOCK//IN performances, Fnatic has the upper hand in the match-up.

The quarterfinal stage of the omega bracket in the VCT LOCK//IN begins later at 1.00 am GMT+8 with the first series between Na’Vi and Leviatán. The second series is expected to begin at 4.00 am GMT+8, which will feature Fnatic against 100 Thieves. Catch all the action on the official VCT Twitch channel.
