Centaurs are often depicted as beautiful surfer dudes with six-pack abs and long, shiny hair. Lords Mobile went in a totally different direction with its centaur. The Vengeful Centaur looks like he belongs on the cover of a heavy metal album, with glowing orange eyes and a supersized sledgehammer.
This guy will give you nightmares. You probably already peed your pants just looking at him. But don’t worry. Despite his appearance, he’s actually one of the good guys. And in this guide, I’ll tell you all you need to know about the Vengeful Centaur, aka Tarkus.
“You will beg me for death!” –Tarkus
Who Is Vengeful Centaur?
Tarkus’ backstory is pretty hardcore, so you might want to hide behind the sofa for this one. The story goes that he was once a regular guy, famed for his might in battle. One day, his own men betrayed him, killing both him and his horse. However, death didn’t last long for Tarkus. He woke up a while later, only to discover that some sicko had experimented on his dead body, stitching him to the remains of his horse.
Unsurprisingly, that made him pretty mad, and he’s been eternally angry ever since.
Vengeful Centaur Score
I love this hero, especially his design. While other heroes include cutesy fluffballs that make me want to vomit, the Vengeful Centaur brings a much-needed dose of badassery to Lords Mobile.
He’s tough, terrifying, and takes no prisoners. His design and backstory are both excellent, and he’s got some killer skills to match. He can improve your research speed, for example, and assist with cavalry ATK. His Hero Skills aren’t half-bad either, with the power to absorb damage and stun enemies.
Of course, he does have some downsides. It’s a shame he doesn’t help with cavalry HP at all. And it takes a lot of time or money to max him out and get the best value from him. But, all-in-all, he has way more pros than cons. For that, he gets a solid 7.5/10. Call me biased if you like. I don’t care.
Specifications
Next, let’s see what Vengeful Centaur can actually do. In this section, I’ll list all of Tarkus’ Battle Skills and Hero Skills, giving you my expert opinion on both. Let’s kick off with the Battle Skills:
- Soul Purge: This skill deals up to 200% of your squad ATK as DMG to enemy troops.
- Research Boost: A very useful passive boost, this increases your research speed by up to 25%.
- Impenetrable Defense: This increases your entire army’s defense by up to 25% whenever Tarkus is deployed.
- Cavalry ATK Boost: This skill raises cavalry ATK by up to 30% as long as Tarkus has been deployed.
Overall, this is a nice mix of Battle Skills. Extra research speed is always useful to get turf boosts faster. Plus, the cavalry ATK can help you deal much more damage with your mounted soldiers. The only disappointing part is “Impenetrable Defense,” as I’d prefer to see an army HP boost instead of DEF.
Next, I’ll look at his Hero Skills:
- Death Wind: This is Tarkus’ ultimate attack, and it’s a doozy. Not only does he deal long-range damage to all enemies in a line, but he also gains the ability to absorb all physical DMG for the next four seconds.
- Spectral Wall: This ability also gives Tarkus the power to absorb DMG for four seconds while knocking back nearby enemies.
- Wrath: This attack targets whichever enemy is furthest away from Tarkus, stunning them for three seconds and dealing damage.
- Warmonger: Warmonger is Tarkus’ passive skill. It increases Life Leech for all other heroes in the lineup.
Again, this is a very solid set of skills. The ultimate is very strong, and the passive ability, “Warmonger,” is particularly useful, especially if you have other Life Leech heroes in your party, like Grim Wolf. With these skills, Vengeful Centaur is a viable option in Hero mode.
Here’s a little extra info about Tarkus:
- Type: Cavalry
- Class: Strength
- Species: Centaur
- Sex: Male
- Movement: Running
How to Unlock the Vengeful Centaur
Vengeful Centaur is a P2P hero. So, if you want this big purple beast in your lineup, you’ll have to pay up. It costs $4.99 for the first 15 medals, and you only need 10 to unlock Tarkus. However, you’ll need a total of 330 medals to rank him all the way up to Legendary.
This is where things can get pricey, as it costs $1,275 to max out Vengeful Centaur in one shot. That’s a lot of cash. And if you have the money to burn, I’m not here to judge.
However, if you can actually have some patience, instead of being a whiny baby who wants everything immediately, there is another option; you can buy $5 medal packs every few weeks to level Tarkus gradually. It’ll take time, but it’ll be much kinder to your bank account.
There are also some limited challenges that allow you to earn up to 10 Vengeful Centaur Medals for free. That’s enough to recruit Tarkus to your roster, but you’ll ultimately have to spend money to make him useful.
Vengeful Centaur and the Colosseum
Vengeful Centaur isn’t a bad choice for Colosseum clashes. He’s got some useful abilities that can exploit the weaknesses of enemy lineups. For example, his “Wrath” attack is excellent for weakening any ranged or cowardly intelligence heroes that sit back and attack from afar.
Plus, since he can absorb physical DMG repeatedly, he can stay alive for a long time. The only downside is that he doesn’t have the best overall damage output. You’ll have to use him as a tank to absorb damage and rely on other heroes to dish it out.
Rallying With Vengeful Centaur
Tarkus isn’t the best for rallying, but he’s not the worst, either. His cavalry ATK boost is helpful if you’re heading into battle with a lot of cavalry troops, but you’ll probably prefer a hero who helps HP too. His best skill is the research speed increase, which is perfect when you want to make rapid upgrades. However, there are many other heroes with a better mix of Battle Skills for rallying.
Monster Hunting With Vengeful Centaur
Tarkus is a great choice for monster hunting, especially against creatures that deal heavy physical DMG. He even features in some of my best lineups. I’ve had impressive results with him against monsters with low magic defense, like Mega Maggot and Hell Drider.
So, if you find yourself losing over and over to high-level monsters, Vengeful Centaur could be the difference-maker. If you add him to your lineup, he’ll make your other heroes last longer with the help of Life Leech while absorbing a ton of damage himself.
Tips and Trivia
- Vengeful Centaur was released back in August 2016.
- F2P Alternatives: If you want a better F2P cavalry leader than Tarkus, choose Child of Light for ATK and HP boosts. Try Trickster if you’re looking for another hero who can help with research speed.
- P2P Alternatives: Barbarian is a terrific P2P strength hero to increase your cavalry ATK and HP while also boosting army DEF, just like Tarkus. You could also try Berserker, who boosts the entire army’s HP, DEF, and ATK. Petite Devil and Femme Fatale can aid with research speed.
