Warhammer 40k Dark Angels Deathwing Assault Box: Is it Worth It?

The Warhammer 40k Dark Angels Deathwing Assault Box was announced on Christmas Day, but is the new kit of the First Legion worth your money?

The holidays are the quietest time in almost every entertainment industry: there’s few sports and e-sports event to watch or bet on, as the whole world slows down to get ready for the new year. But Games Workshop doesn’t rest, as they revealed a new boxed set for the Dark Angels, the First Legion in the universe of Warhammer 40k.

Dark Angels are set to receive their Codex after the Space Marines, the Tyranids, the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Necrons during the first quarter of next year. The new box coming with the codex is incredible, as it includes a whole detachment of Deathwing Terminators, as well as the new miniature of Belial, the Grand Master of the Deathwing – as well as a limited-edition version of the Codex Supplement. But is the Deathwing Assault worth it?

Warhammer 40k Dark Angels Deathwing Assault Box Contents

The Deathwing Assault Box contains some incredible miniatures:

• The new Belial figure,
• 5 Deathwing Knights,
• 10 Deathwing Terminators,
• 2 Dark Angels Upgrade kits,
• as well as the new limited edition Dark Angels Codex Supplement and Datacards

But how much do the contents of this kit cost?

• Belial – $32 (although this is the older model, so the new one could see a price increase)
• Deathwing Terminators – $60 for 5
• Deathwing Knights – $60 for 5
• Dark Angels Upgrade Sprue – $15 for 1
• Dark Angels Codex – $60 (based off the price of Codex: Space Marines)
• Dark Angels Datacards – $35 (based off the price of Datacards: Adeptus Mechanicus)

This comes out to a total of $337. If we take the other recently released bigger kits, such as the Warhammer 40k Christmas boxes, we can see that the new Dark Angels set is a steal, as those big boxes usually cost around $200, depending on location. This means that you save more than 130 dollars if you buy the Deathwing players’ wet dream, which is a great base for any Dark Angels army – or a similarly great addition to an existing force.

Even though they don’t come with the box, the Dark Angels will get a completely new unit next to the Belial resculpt: the Inner Circle Companions. These Marines are the elite of the elite, who popped up after the return of The Lion – maybe they are Risen Dark Angels? Whatever their background is, they are a new elite unit that the Dark Angels can use on the battlefield.

The new Dark Angels Deathwing Assault Box arrives at the beginning of next year, altouhgh the exact date hasn’t been revealed yet. The Dark Angels Codex Supplement should arrive at the end of winter/the beginning of spring, so we can all expect Belial and his Deathwing Knights and Terminators join the fray in a few months.
