Wave Crasher is one of the most recent additions to the Lords Mobile roster, joining up in January 2023. And, with his boring, basic design, he proves that IGG has clearly not been paying attention to all my criticisms over the years.
I want monsters, robots, aliens, giant skull-headed demons that breathe fire! And what do I get? A gym bro with blue hair. Thanks a lot, IGG. Anyway, since I’m writing guides to every hero in the game for you lucky people, I suppose I have to talk about Wave Crasher, so let’s get to it.
“Even the biggest waves won’t stop me!” –Austin
Who Is Wave Crasher?
If you’re expecting some amazing, epic backstory for Wave Crasher, you’re playing the wrong game, buddy. IGG has given us yet another origin story which basically boils down to “Guy is good at fighting.”
Here it is, in brief: Wave Crasher, or Austin, was born on an island. He became a great fighter and was given a special anchor as a reward for beating people up. He then decided to build a big ship to sail his people away to a new home. Wow, they should really make a movie of this one.
Wave Crasher Score
Here’s the fun part: I now get to tear into Wave Crasher and tell you why he sucks so bad. But don’t worry. I’ll try not to be too biased.
I’ve already talked about his looks and story, so let’s not go over that again. How about his skills? Well, the Battle Skills are pretty boring. They provide minimal passive boosts to cavalry, which is barely even noticeable for most players. His Hero Skills are better, making him a decent option for the Colosseum.
In fact, the Colosseum is the only place I think Wave Crasher can excel. He’s not going to make it into many monster-hunting lineups, and you most likely already have better commanders. In other words, he’s pretty useless for most gameplay, but he can work in the Colosseum.
Taking that all into account, I’m giving Wave Crasher a 6/10. Yes, it’s harsh, but I don’t care. For a hero released in 2023, I think IGG could have done so much more with this guy. Both visually and in-game, he’s a disappointment.
Specifications
Next, I’ll take a closer look at what Wave Crasher can do. If you’re smart, this should help you see why he got that 6/10 rating. If you’re a big dummy, just try to keep up. Maybe you’ll learn something if you try really hard.
I’ll start with a list of his Battle Skills:
- Making Waves: This is a standard Battle Skill, dealing up to 200% squad ATK as DMG to enemies.
- Cavalry DEF Blessing: All of Austin’s other Battle Skills are blessings, like this one. That means they’re passive, and you don’t have to deploy him to get the effect. Cavalry DEF Blessing improves cavalry DEF by up to 20%.
- Cavalry HP Blessing: This improves cavalry HP by 10%.
- Cavalry ATK Blessing: Yet another blessing, but this one boosts cavalry ATK by 10%.
Passive skills like these aren’t bad, especially for lazy players like you who don’t like having to think. However, Wave Crasher’s blessings are all pretty bland and basic. An extra 10% ATK or HP isn’t really going to make a huge difference, and there are so many other heroes with more exciting and valuable Battle Skills.
Next, let’s see his Hero Skills:
- Drop Anchor: This is Austin’s ultimate attack. He slams his anchor down, pushing back all nearby enemies and stunning them for a few seconds.
- Sea’s Blessing: This skill boosts Austin’s Reflex and basically makes him better at dodging attacks.
- Riptide Whirl: Austin throws his hammer at an enemy. It can bounce off different enemies up to six times, doing damage and lowering their ATK for five seconds.
- Anchor Aweigh: This is an area-of-effect attack, dealing damage to multiple enemies in a medium area. It also inflicts Wavebreaker, which lowers enemy magic defense (MDEF).
As a Lords Mobile master, I can tell you one thing: those are solid Colosseum skills. Austin’s ability to reduce enemy MDEF and ATK makes him a powerful support hero. For monster hunting, he’s a lot less useful, and I’ll talk more about that below.
Before we get to that, here’s some extra info on Austin:
- Type: Cavalry
- Class: Agility
- Species: Human
- Sex: Male
- Movement: Running
How to Unlock the Wave Crasher
Wave Crasher is a P2P hero, so all you F2P players may as well close this tab right now. If you want to use this hero, you’ll have to pay up for Wave Crasher Medals to unlock and upgrade him.
You’ll need 10 medals to access Wave Crasher at Common Level. That’ll cost you $4.99. But he’s utterly useless at that level, so you’ll have to get more medals to rank him up and improve his skills.
There are two ways of doing this: a clever-but-slow way and a stupid-but-fast way. The clever-but-slow way involves buying $5 medal packs every few weeks. With this method, you’ll only have to spend $165 to max Austin out.
The stupid-but-fast method is to just buy all the medals immediately in one shot. This will give you an instantly maxed-out Wave Crasher. It’ll also burn a $1,375 hole in your pocket – or your mom’s credit card.
Wave Crasher and the Colosseum
As I said earlier, the Colosseum is Wave Crasher’s home. I may not like this hero, but I have to admit he has some handy support skills for Colosseum fighting. However, if you want to get the most out of him, you’ll need to team him up with the right heroes.
I recommend using him alongside intelligence heroes, especially those that tend to be a little squishy and easy to kill, like Petite Devil. His “Anchor Aweigh” ability will help weaken enemy lines and make your spellcasters deal more damage. Plus, “Riptide Whirl” reduces the enemy’s ATK, which should help your whole lineup stay alive longer.
Rallying With Wave Crasher
I don’t recommend using Wave Crasher for rallying unless you’re looking for a passive commander to sit back and provide minor boosts. He’s fine if you’re leading many cavalry into battle. But there are other heroes who provide much bigger cavalry boosts when deployed, like Barbarian.
Monster Hunting With Wave Crasher
I don’t rate Austin as a monster hunter. His skills may work in the Colosseum, but for monster hunts – just don’t.
If you insist on using him, make sure to team him up with intelligence heroes. That way, his skills will actually have some impact, keeping your party alive longer and helping magic attacks do more damage.
Tips and Trivia
- Wave Crasher joined Lords Mobile on Jan. 16, 2023.
- F2P Alternatives: Child of Light is a terrific freebie alternative to Wave Crasher, improving both cavalry HP and ATK. He also has similar Hero Skills for stunning enemies and reducing MDEF. Death Knight and Night Raven also provide nice cavalry boosts.
- P2P Alternatives: In the P2P roster, Barbarian is one of the top cavalry commanders and provides much bigger boosts to ATK and HP than Austin. Steambot is another cavalry specialist, increasing HP, ATK, and DEF.
