What to do about affection bonuses in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Affection is a stat in the core series games that was introduced in Generation VI. The form it takes varies from game to game, but it’s generally a way to get various bonuses. Affection bonuses can be pretty helpful. The most common effect is that you’re more likely to deal and survive critical hits once you get high enough affection.

You first need to unlock affection and the ability to have Pokémon follow you. Go to Hearthome City, where you will unlock the ability to walk around with your monster pals. The first thing you need to do is head to Amity Square and talk to the NPC there. Head to the back of the inital area and up the stairs, grab the Amulet Coin in the stone buildings. When you go to leave Amity, the NPC will talk to you again, they will tell you that Pokémon want out of their balls more often. When you leave, you will now have the Walk Together option in the Pokémon menu that allows the monster to walk alongside you.

Doing this normally will give you one big bonus, Affection. The affection bonuses in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are pretty varied, and can be pretty useful. But sometimes, you might want to remove them or reduce them. Some players just want more challenge, so the DPS bonuses get in the way. Affection can be lowered in a few ways. The most common way is to have a Pokémon faint many times in a row. But since this is a really slow process, it’s better to use healing items.

Certain healing items like Herbs and Powders are very bitter, and your monster friends don’t like them. Using a bunch of Revival or Medicine Herbs on a Pokémon will lower their affection. THat makes battles and healing with these items the best way to remove affection bonuses in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

You should also stop over and grab the Explorer’s Kit as well. Now that you have unlocked more of the game go out and have fun. And if you want to trade and battle, you can do that too. You don’t need the NSO Expansion Pack to access online in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

And if you’re more of the collector type of Trainer, there’s good news for you too. Nintendo has confirmed upcoming Home support for both the new remakes. That means you can get into the storage expansion offered by Home and store all those Eggs you’re going to be hoarding. It’s a great help, and can’t really be beaten at $16 or so a year.
