Will Modern Warfare 2 Have Skill Based Match-Making (SBMM)?

Modern Warfare 2 is almost here, and with the beta wrapping up not long ago, Activision has been hard at work patching issues and listening to community feedback. Some changes are coming to the main game, based on how the beta went.

One of the most controversial features however, is Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM). Some players love it, others hate it, but will it be in Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer? Here’s everything we know so far.

What is SBMM in Call of Duty?

SBMM allows players to drop into lobbies full of players at a similar skill level. When you win a few in a row, you’ll notice your lobbies get a bit harder, and if you lose a few, easier. Eventually the system should find an equilibrium.

SBMM has been a controversial feature for some time. For better players, it can feel frustrating, as the hours they’ve put in don’t yield the results they once did. They are simply given harder games, with no real rewards.

For more casual players though, it can make the game a more enjoyable experience. They’re less likely to face players that will destroy the lobby, and can have a smoother experience for it.

Will Modern Warfare 2 have SBMM?

Unfortunately for a lot of players, Modern Warfare 2 will feature SBMM in Multiplayer lobbies. Just as in the beta, you’ll be matched against players of a similar skill level to yourself.

There is a suggestion from leaker Ralph’sValve on Twitter that with new advanced AI being brought into MW2, PvPvE lobbies may exist, where bots are brought in to match skill levels more accurately. No information has been released by Infinity Ward on this yet though.

Love it or hate it, SBMM is here to stay. With that in mind, stay ahead of the competition the best you can by checking out the best weapons to use in Modern Warfare 2.
