The Worlds 2022 Quarterfinals come to an end with DRX reverse sweeping the reigning World Champions EDG in a 3-2 series, even after a devastating Game 2 loss for the LCK side.

DRX vs EDG (Game 1)

Exciting game day for Deft as he was facing his old organization on his birthday, and he came into the series with a bang as DRX drafted their Ashe/Heimer bot lane. The game did not have early kills so teams just traded objectives on their strong sides, DRX with the first two drakes and EDG with both Heralds. It was at the second Herald where we got our first kills. Even though the trade was 2v2, DRX got more around the map so they were able to establish a 2k gold lead. The fight for the third drake was very extended as EDG won the first fight, but their low health meant they couldn’t take the objective. Then both teams respawned and met at the drake, where Pyosik managed to steal and secure Soul point, this time without anyone dying. EDG stopped the DRX drake stacking in the next fight as Scout found a great engage on Azir and gave his team an easy ace. The ace also meant a Baron and a 3k gold lead for EDG. Now at a very disadvantaged in terms of team comps, DRX tried to play through Kingen’s split push. They tried to end the game while EDG went for the drake, but Kingen and BeryL dying at the enemy base meant EDG had the opportunity to push for the end themselves. Even though DRX put up a good fight, they couldn’t hold their base and EDG took the 1-0 series lead.

DRX vs EDG (Game 2)

The second game started out much faster as we got our first blood before the fifth minute when JieJie ganked the top lane. DRX tried to answer in the bot lane, but they only trade 1-for-1 in a 3v2. DRX was able to secure the first Herald but EDG was still more active around the map getting kills on mainly Viper. DRX still made good moves around the map to get some advantages, but they were struggling to push their lead with BeryL dying over and over. Still, they found a great fight when EDG took their second drake of the game, securing three exit kills and pushing their gold lead to 4k. But BeryL redeemed himself as he found a great pick on Viper, which gave DRX an opportunity to take an early Baron.

They used their first Baron really well to take control of the map and vision. While a bad fight before the drake meant DRX couldn’t stop EDG from getting to the Infernal Soul point, they still managed to secure another Baron for themselves using that control. EDG got the Soul when Deft was caught just before the drake, but they lost two inhibitors in return. The game turned into full chaos during late game as Deft tried to TP for a back door while EDG was doing Baron. Unfortunately for DRX, an inhibitor spawned just before the nexus died, and EDG secured the Elder during Deft’s death. EDG used their double buffs to end the game and put themselves on series point.

DRX vs EDG (Game 3)

After a disastrous end to Game 2, DRX came into Game 3 with a Kindred for Pyosik and Draven for Deft. While Pyosik had not any luck with early Kindred marks, he was able to secure the first drake thanks to bot lane pressure. But a poor invade from Zeka gave EDG the first blood and it would give them the first Herald if Pyosik hadn’t stolen it. Despite EDG’s early kills, DRX was able to get some drakes to delay the game, and they got a 1k gold cashout for Draven. But EDG had much better teamfights, so DRX got pushed back to their base as EDG delayed the Soul and started to push for an inhibitor. But they overstayed their welcome and DRX found a great engage, getting three kills and securing a Baron. The Baron led to DRX getting two inhibitors and creating enough pressure to get the Cloud Soul finally. After the Soul, Scout and Meiko got caught in the mid lane giving away four kills, which was enough for DRX to extend the series.

DRX vs EDG (Game 4)

As expected from the series the game started out slow in terms of kills, but DRX was able to secure an early drake thanks to their bot pressure. The first came at the first Herald, and despite the first blood from DRX, EDG secured the objective. EDG had a 2k lead when plates fell, but DRX was able to stack the drakes. DRX used their lead to give Kingen an opportunity to split push as they kept taking more towers around the map while sacrificing their third drake. EDG played the 5v5s very well, despite their comp not being built for that. They stole another drake to delay the Soul more and won the fight afterward. But Kingen found a great pick on Viper just after, getting two kills for his team and letting them secure a Baron. DRX sieged top side with the Baron and found two kills with a dive, two kills that gave them the Hextech Soul. With their advantage, all DRX needed was another Baron to push for the end. They found one last great engage in the EDG base which was enough to bring us to Silver Scrapes.

DRX vs EDG (Game 5)

The game started out in a way worthy of a do-or-die game as we got a solo kill from Zeka in the mid lane for first blood. But a big mistake from Pyosik in the top lane and a good gank from JieJie in mid gave EDG two kills back which they turned into the first drake. DRX took the gold lead back after Pyosik found a bot lane gank, this time successful as they picked up two kills. The first big teamfight happened at the third drake where EDG started out by killing Deft, but DRX turned the 4v5 around behind Zeka and Pyosik’s plays and they took the drake lead, as well as a 4k gold lead. EDG was at least able to delay the Soul, but DRX’s lead kept growing as Zeka found solo kill after solo kill on Scout in side lanes.

DRX also did a good job at turning their gold lead into objectives as they secured a Baron and the Soul point. And at this point, EDG was content enough to wait for that next drake and let Viper’s Aphelios farm. They even got a pick on Kingen before the objective, but they couldn’t stop Pyosik from stealing it. In the end, the steal did not matter as DRX just fought the 4v5 and handily won it as Zeka got a quadra kill to crown his monster performance, and he put his team to the Semifinals.
