Xavier Legette 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Xavier Legette 2024 NFL Draft Profile

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Xavier Legette 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Xavier Legette Background

Position: Wide Receiver

School: South Carolina

Size: 6-foot-3, 227 pounds

Class: Redshirt Senior

2023 stats: 71 receptions, 1,255 receiving yards, 17.7 yards per catch, 7 touchdown catches, 9 rushes, -9 rushing yards

Legette had just one year of great production, but really improved his stock this season. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a four-star prospect in the class of 2019, Legette signed with his home state school South Carolina. He struggled to make an impact in his first four seasons on campus. Legette registered just 42 receptions for 423 yards in that time frame. He took a jump in 2023, tallying 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. Although he emerged as a go-to receiver, South Carolina struggled with a 5-7 record.

Following the season, Legette declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two selection.

Xavier Legette Strengths

Legette has great size for the receiver position. He was listed at 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds. His size will make him one of the bigger receivers in the class. He is a matchup problem for defensive backs, who usually are much smaller. Legette wins jump balls and 50/50 balls with a big catch radius. He has good play strength for the position and uses it well when fighting for catches.

Especially for his size, Legette is a great athlete. While he isn’t the quickest or most agile, he can really turn on the speed once he gets his legs moving. This helps him push up the field vertically and stretch a defense. On top of that, Legette has great body control, which he uses to highpoint the football and make acrobatic catches.

With the ball in his hands, Legette can be dangerous. South Carolina used him as a returner because of his dynamicism after the catch. He uses his good speed to outrun defenders and make big plays. His vision helps him run to open space and maximize the amount of yardage he can pick up on a given play. With his bigger size, defensive backs can have trouble tackling him in the open field.

Xavier Legette Weaknesses

Legette was in college for five seasons, but really only produced this past season. He could be a one year wonder or a late bloomer, but that won’t be very encouraging for NFL general managers. If he tests well, that could make up for his lack of career production.

At South Carolina, Legette ran a limited route tree. He will need to be able to diversify his routes at the NFL level and run more complete routes. To go along with his limited route tree, Legette can be a more detailed route-runner. He struggles to get in and out of his breaks quickly. Often times his center of gravity is high, which makes it tough for him to change directions.

While he has the size to be a good run blocker, Legette needs to make sure he makes it a focal point. He needs to show better technique and leverage to really drive defenders and open up running lanes. With some coaching, Legette can turn this weakness into a strength.
