Xbox Series X|S Have Been The Best-Selling Next-Gen Consoles In NA Since October 2021

According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a recent earnings call, Xbox Series X|S have been the best-selling consoles in North America for three quarters in a row now, starting from October 2021 up until June 2022.

There is no doubt that Microsoft has had a blast with the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles in the new generation of gaming. It’s been already confirmed that the 9th-gen consoles of Microsoft have already outsold Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the original Xbox in the number of sales. But today, Satya Nadella revealed another great achievement with their new consoles.

As reported by VGChartz and according to Nadella, Xbox Series X|S have been the best-selling next-gen consoles in North America in the last three quarters, starting from the quarter that ended in December 2021. In other words, this means that Xbox Series X|S consoles have outsold PlayStation 5 for nine months now. Keep in mind that this is a comparison based on the number of unit sales, not the amount of money earned by console sales.

Also, it’s worth noting that Nintendo Switch and PS4 are both out of this comparison as they are not next-gen consoles.

Regarding the fact that Microsoft postponed RedFall and Starfield to 2023 while Sony will be releasing God of Ragnarok and The Last Of Us Part 1 Remake later this year, the equations could change in the near future.

However, next year could be even a more dominant year for Microsoft regarding the launch of Starfield as an Xbox console exclusive. Overall, Microsoft’s calendar for next year seems much meatier than 2022, and it could already give them an edge in sales if all those anticipated games turn into true masterpieces.

On the other hand, Sony also has a number of big titles for 2023, including Spider-Man 2 which could easily turn into the best-selling PS5 game since the console’s launch. However, it’s yet to be seen whether Insomniac Games would be able to finish the development of the game in time.

Aside from the number of sales, what matters the most is the fact that this great rivalry between Sony and Microsoft in gaming could lead to some high-quality games in both ecosystems, which is a big win for gamers.
