You should uninstall Baldur’s Gate 3 before its next patch

The next major patch is about to hit Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC and PS5, and to prep for its arrival Larian Studios is suggesting that some players do something unusual: uninstall the game.

The reason is because, while the patch comes in at a reasonable 30 GB, it’ll require another 130 GB of available disk space to unpack and complete the installation. By uninstalling the game, players will reclaim the 100+ GB that the base game already takes up on your SSD, and then be able to pull down the latest version the next time the game is installed.

This is less of an issue for folks with fast internet speeds, as it should only take an hour tops to reinstall. But since a speedy connection isn’t something you can simply roll for, for better or worse, we should feel for the people who will wait days for Baldur’s Gate 3 to reinstall. That $79.99 deluxe physical version of the game, containing a “fuck-ton of discs” really can’t come soon enough, can it?

Thankfully, it seems like all of your effort will be worth it, as patch 5 seems stacked. Larian Studios has shared a bit about what we can expect — and in an entertaining fashion, as usual — in a statement to IGN. It’ll include slowdown fixes caused by the game refusing to forget about your violent acts, among other things.

The new patch will also introduce what the studio is calling “Withers’ Epilogue Party Extravaganza,” which sounds equal parts delightful and wacky. In other words, completely on brand for Baldur’s Gate 3.
