2023 LCS Spring Split Week 3 Day 1: Zven Gets His 200th Career Win During the Berserker Show

LCS is back in the studio after the technical difficulties of last week.

After an exciting second week, LCS was back with another packed game day. In the first game of the day, both TSM and C9 were looking to bounce back after a disappointing last week, while the two on-the-rise teams battled each other in the TL vs 100T match. But the game of the day was the first-placed FLY facing off one of their biggest rivals in EG to keep their unbeaten streak.

Coming into Week 3, most of the rosters are pretty settled by now. So far every team except FlyQuest and Dignitas have their full rosters, while the two are still missing their starting support players with no exact date on when they will join their respective teams.

C9 vs TSM

After his not-so-great performance against FLY, Blaber came out the gate very aggressive with a Nocturne pick. C9’s early game was focused on Blaber constantly invading the enemy jungle, and despite giving up the first blood during one of the invades, Blaber managed to get himself ahead. Still, he couldn’t help his team with that lead while Bugi and TSM were able to find their own plays toward the bot side.

It turns out the early game doesn’t matter as C9 exploded once teams started grouping and they dominated TSM in 5v5s. Berserker was massive as TSM could not reach the Zeri, and he found himself a pentakill. The game drew out a little as Berserker decided to 1v4 TSM in their base, but eventually, C9 was able to find more fight and they closed the game out.

FLY vs EG

An explosive start to the game with a great first blood kill for VicLa, but their advantage didn’t stick around for long. Two plays, challenging the first drake spawn and then trying to dive Inspired in the side lane, went wrong for them which led to a very fed and scary Viktor. But even those early mistakes were enough to bridge the gap between the two team compositions. EG had trouble killing the FLY’s tanky top/jungle duo or diving the enemy carries. They had close moments due to VicLa misplaying some of the fights, but after a certain point, it became impossible for Impact to die. FLY was patient enough the wait for their second Baron of the game to push for the end, even with EG not being able to offer any resistance.

TL vs 100T

The meta of the bot lane madness was full on display with four ADCs drafted, and as a result, both teams diverted their attention to the bottom side of the map in the early game. Despite TL finding the first blood with an early gank from Pyosik, 100T was still able to win the 2v2. And giving early kills to Doublelift is a bad idea. Even though the veteran bot laner’s lead wasn’t that big coming out of the lane, 100T was able to leverage it great in teamfights. This coupled with a couple of unforced errors from the TL side gave the Thieves an easy Ocean Soul, Baron and an Elder. With three buffs and a monster Doublelift, ending the game was just a formality for 100T.

CLG vs GG

GG bot lane was against their former team where they won the LCS and made an MSI final, and they certainly weren’t holding back as they found a couple of kills for Stixxay in the 2v2 and took the first turret comfortably. Stixxay and huhi weren’t the only GG duo making plays either with River and Gori finding pick after pick in side lanes. They were even able to turn one of these picks into a Baron and over 7k gold lead. CLG’s last ditch attempt was to Teleport on Gori in a side lane, but he was able to turn the 1v2 and kill both CLG solo laners. This played unofficially ended the game as GG went through the steps to get their first win of the Spring Split.

IMT vs DIG

In the last game of the day, DIG was looking for their first victory of the split. And it seemed like no one wanted it more than Santorin. The veteran jungler dominated the early game as he got kills for both of his solo laners and secured all of the objectives available. On the other hand, even though he couldn’t impact the game to the same degree, Kenvi was able to create a massive farm lead. Dignitas not being able to extend their lead or keep stacking drakes came back to hurt them once the IMT comp with Graves, K’Sante and Zeri got to scale. After a certain point, DIG had no chance in any fight, and IMT just steamrolled over them to get their second win on the board.
