A new Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin demo has dropped as part of State of Play

Square Enix have announced a new demo for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin as part of tonight’s State of Play broadcast. You will need 35gb free on your PlayStation 5 to download the demo but  it’s also available on PS4 and Xbox consoles.

It’s not actually long before the game is out, the action-filled spin-off will release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on 18th March 2022. Any progress you make in the demo will carry over to the full game which is nice.

Here’s more about the demo from Square Enix.

The new demo lets you explore multiple areas from the full game, either solo or with two other players, each one full of dangerous creatures from across the FINAL FANTASY series. You’ll explore the dark corridors of the Chaos Shrine, fending off bombs, goblins and even the occasional (gulp!) Tonberry!

Soon after, you’ll explore the coral caves of Pravoka Seagrot, where you’ll battle spiders, pirates and the extremely dangerous Captain Bikke. Watch out for his massive axe.

ou’ll also head to the Western Keep – an ancient castle full of fresh dangers. Get ready to dodge giant arrows as you explore the treacherous battlements.

Taking on these deadly areas isn’t easy, but fortunately you have access to multiple jobs. These are ‘roles’ that Jack can be assigned in battle – up to two can be equipped at a time and switched between at the push of a button.

You start as a Swordsman, and over the course of the demo get access to the Black Mage, Lancer, Pugilist and many more.

You’ll also be able to enjoy the game’s extensive loot system, which lets you earn gear from finding chests, defeating enemies and completing missions. As you explore and build your skills, you’ll strengthen Jack and his allies… and make them look good while doing so!

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin’s box art has been revealed by Square Enix. The box art has a predominantly white background like previous Final Fantasy titles, partial character portraits making up the right side of the box. There also appears to be a red and black wave across the bottom that blends into the portraits, and it could be symbolism for the spread of Chaos. After all, Chaos is something that needs to be killed.

The blurb for Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin reads: “When darkness veils the world, four warriors of light shall come.” Jack and his comrades must hazard numerous challenges to bring the light of the crystals back to Cornelia, a kingdom conquered by darkness. Will restoring the crystals’ light usher in peace or a new form of darkness? … Or perhaps something else entirely?”

Announced during TGS 2021, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy definitely has a vibe of a Souls game with a broody atmosphere and combat that could be tough. Oh, and the main character really, really wants to kill Chaos. The amount of times it is mentioned in the announcement trailer is pretty high, but a reason as to why this character is on the mission to kill Chaos is not given. This main character is called Jack and he is accompanied by allies Ash and Jed.

So, are you going to be downloading the new demo?
