RuneScape is moving from being a purely digital game and moving into the physical realm, Jagex and Steamforged have confirmed today. The two companies have partnered to create two games based on RuneScape, with one being a board game and the other a tabletop RPG. The board game will have one to five players take on quests across Gielinor, with mechanics that allow character upgrades and use skills to complete quersts. The tabletop RPG core book will provide a base from which players will be able to create their own characters and quests set in Gielinor.
RuneScape is getting physical
Phil Mansell, CEO of Jagex, said, “After more than 21 years of being exclusively available digitally, it’s extremely exciting to be collaborating with Steamforged to create and deliver new RuneScape role-playing adventures to tabletop gamers. By launching the board game via a crowdfunding platform, Steamforged is mirroring our approach of involving the RuneScape communities in taking the game to tabletop. Given Steamforged’s experience and expertise in transforming video game experiences to tabletop, I’m sure that both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape players will be excited to get their hands on the planned miniatures to create their own adventures with other ’Scapers and board gamers”.
