All 3 Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises Formidable Foe locations in Rise of the Ronin

One of the first main missions in Rise of the Ronin is called Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises, and it introduces you to your first set of Formidable Foes. These are tough optional enemies that will grant you bonus rewards if you manage to find and defeat all of them.

Tracking down each Formidable Foe in a mission will require you to explore off the beaten path and make use of your grappling hook to reach hidden areas. You can usually find most of them fairly easily, but Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises has a few of them hidden in strange places.

Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises Formidable Foe Locations

There are three Formidable Foes to find in the Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises mission in Rise of the Ronin. You can see all three of their locations marked on the map above. Defeating them will grant you bonus rewards like fashionable armor and outfits.

The first Formidable Foe is found along the path to the main objective, so you can’t miss him. He’s guarding a Veiled Edge Banner in the house to the northwest. The second Formidable Foe is found patrolling the grassy area over the wall just south of the first Formidable Foe and the Veiled Edge Banner. Finally, the third Formidable Foe is found to the east of the Veiled Edge Banner atop a grassy overlook. You’ll need to use your grappling hook to reach him.

Formidable Foe #1

You’ll find the first Formidable Foe guarding the Veiled Edge Banner in the northwestern house on the way to your main objective. You really can’t miss this one. After defeating him, the Veiled Edge Banner will unlock and a Black Marketeer vendor will appear so you can restock your supplies. Remember that you can summon allies and invite friends at Veiled Edge Banners, so don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re struggling.

Formidable Foe #2

After defeating the first Formidable Foe and activating the Veiled Edge Banner, exit the house to the south and climb over the wall to reach a grassy area. You’ll find the second Formidable Foe patrolling near the wall, which makes for an easy assassination.

Formidable Foe #3

The third Formidable Foe in Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises is the hardest to find. He’s located to the east of the Veiled Edge Banner where you defeated the first Formidable Foe, but you need to take a specific route to reach him.

Head back to the southern gate of the complex near the first Veiled Edge Banner. Look to the right of the gate and use your grappling hook to climb onto the wall. Then, use your grappling hook to jump over to the nearby tower and then grapple again to swing onto the roof of the building. Once you’re on the roof, head north and you’ll see the third Formidable Foe in a grassy clearing underneath some red trees. Use your grappling hook to swing over and take him down.

With the trio of Formidable Foes out of the way, you can finally head north to face Gonzo the bandit chief and finish the mission. This will bring you to the city of Yokohama and unlock the glider, which will greatly open up your traversal options. There’s still a long road ahead of you in Rise of the Ronin, so try to take out Formidable Foes and complete bonus objectives whenever you can so you can keep getting better gear.
