Arcade1Up Releasing Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Cabinet

The arcade cabinet production company Arcade1Up will be releasing an official Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 cabinet. Known for re-releasing retro arcade cabinets of arcade classics from fighting games, beat-em-ups, and sports titles.

Arcade1Up has been working closely with Capcom releasing multiple cabinets, most prominently from the Versus series. Such games include X-men Vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes, and Marvel Vs. Capcom among many more.

The company develops the cabinets to bring back the feeling of the arcades to the comfort of their own home. Of course, normal arcade cabinets are massive, old, and harder to track down.  So to circumvent the issue, Arcade1Up Cabinets are a lot smaller than their original counterparts. They may be too small for some, selling an optional riser to raise the height of most cabinets.

The cabinet will share the iconic design of western cabinets, that people have grown up seeing in the arcades. Marvel Vs Capcom 2 will also not be the only game a part of the package. A total of eight Marvel fighting games developed by Capcom will also be a part of the cabinet.

The Eight Games include:

  • Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
  • Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
  • Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter
  • X-Men Vs Street Fighter
  • Marvel Super Heroes
  • X-Men: Children of the Atom
  • X-Men Mutant Apocalypse
  • Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems

Special Features

Other features include online play for every title a part of the bundle and leaderboards.

A major benefit of the Marvel Vs Capcom 2 cabinet is its backward compatibility with the other arcade cabinets with the same titles. A Marvel Vs Capcom cabinet has seen a release prior with all of the same titles, with the exclusion of Marvel Vs Capcom 2, with The Punisher as its eighth title.

The system runs on Wi-Fi, however, fans have found a workaround with ethernet adapters to allow the usage of ethernet cables. Which will be a better option for people who are serious about playing online.

The buttons and stick will be similar to what many players in the west are familiar with. The standard bat-top stick as opposed to ball tops that many modern arcade sticks use, and the standard in Japan.  Several tutorials exist online for those who wish to mod their cabinets with other parts from different manufacturers.

Is Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Finally Free?

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is a surprise due to how long it’s been since the last release of the game. Previously Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and even iOS. Unfortunately, due to copyright reasons the game, Capcom had to delist the title from the online marketplaces.

The game was completely digital, while a “physical” version exists for Playstation 3, it was a game box with a redeemable code.

The standout features were the widescreen support and online functionality with rollback netcode. Which many prefer over pulling out their Sega Dreamcast, or Playstation 2.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 has become a game with such a legacy, for both casual and competitive fans in the fighting game community. However, due to copyright, it’s left many fans missing the times they had with the game.

The price of the Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 cabinet will be $599 and available for pre-order on Sep. 9. While the news that a new legal version of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is now available as many fans have been asking for it. Many fans may feel the price isn’t worth it.

Arcade1Up does market its cabinets as premium items, a novelty for fans who wish to have a cabinet at home. It still leaves fans unhappy without a more accessible and more affordable version on PC or modern consoles.

There are other free options as well, the popular software client Fightcade has seen major updates that allow fans to play their favorite games for free online. While fans would easily purchase a new and modern re-release of their favorite fighting games. Fightcade allows a free alternative for titles such as Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 online, with GGPO rollback netcode.

Hopefully, in the near future, a new Marvel Vs Capcom title or a modern port of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 will be able to release once again.
