Astralis trounce EG.PA in Pinnacle Cup Championship opener

Astralis made quick work of EG.PA in Group B’s first match and are a single win away from the playoffs.

The Danes’ first outing at the Pinnacle Cup Championship ended with them taking a dominant 16-6 win over EG.PA as Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander ‘s crew completely overpowered the former Party Astronauts roster, who have recently been picked up by the Evil Geniuses organization as a part of their 15-man pool.

EG.PA now face an uphill battle in their first competition under a new banner, having been sent to a best-of-three elimination series against the loser of the match between Imperial and Finest. The North Americans will require back-to-back victories if they want to reach the playoffs’ lower bracket.

Astralis never let their foot off the gas against EG.PA

Astralis got off to a hot start on Overpass, taking a commanding 11-1 lead over EG.PA by establishing their nearly unbreakable area control and Benjamin “blameF” Bremer providing much-needed firepower with his 16 kills at that point.

Ben “ben1337” Smith‘s squad finally broke Astralis‘ streak in the 13th round with double-kills coming in from Josh “PwnAlone” Pigue and Jonathan “djay” Dallal, but it would merely be a consolation in an otherwise one-sided first half which saw the Danes enter the switch leading 13-2.

The second period kicked off with EG.PA scoring the first four rounds and taking advantage of Astralis‘ slow CT-side economy as they began their attempt at a comeback and narrowed the Danish team’s lead to seven. The North Americans’ dream wasn’t meant to be, however, as blameF drove his team to victory off the back of his 29 kills, Astralis ultimately wrapping up the game 16-6.
