Matchups set for day three of IEM Rio Major Challengers Stage

The IEM Rio Major Challengers Stage has reached its third day, which means that solely best-of-three matches will take place from here until the Legends Stage gets underway on Saturday.

The home crowd suffered on day two as both Imperial and 00NATION were eliminated from contention following losses to Cloud9 and IHC, respectively, leaving FURIA as the sole all-Brazilian representatives still in the competition.

Andrei “arT” Piovezan‘s side still need to fight to carry that status through to the next stage, and will have their first chance to lock in a spot among the top sixteen from the 2-1 pool when they take on GamerLegion at the end of day three.

Vitality are on the brink of elimination with a 1-2 record

A number of favorites have their backs up against the wall in the 1-2 pool, with Cloud9 in particular struggling following a slow start to the tournament. Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov has been their one saving grace so far, but they’ll need the help Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov, who has been rather absent thus far, if they want to move past Evil Geniuses in their second elimination series.

Vitality are also staring down an early exit from the Major following their loss to Outsiders on day two, and will need to demonstrate better form as they now have two best-of-threes separating them from qualifying for the Legends Stage, beginning with a match against Grayhound.
