Meanwhile, Valencia are now under the leadership of Gennaro Gattuso who was unveiled as the club’s new manager towards the start of June.

Gattuso’s side finished ninth in La Liga last season, and they have not been a top-four side since 2018-19, finishing ninth, 13th and ninth in the last three campaigns.

They have signed Samu Castillejo and Hugo Duro this summer, but Helder Costa, Ilaix Moriba, Omar Alderete and Bryan Gil have returned to their parent clubs after loan spells.

Valencia are yet to play a pre-season game this summer, but they will be taking on Dortmund, St Gallen and Stuttgart in quick succession, while they will also face Nottingham Forest, Castellon and Atalanta BC as part of their preparations for the new season.

Los Che will begin their 2022-23 campaign against Girona, and it will be fascinating to see whether they are capable of challenging for a European spot next season.
