Brawlhalla Adds Ezio From Assassin’s Creed To Roster

As announced via Twitter, and the game’s official website, the next Legend to be joining Brawlhalla‘s roster is none other than Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Ezio is the protagonist of several Assassin’s Creed titles, beginning with Assassin’s Creed 2, and is widely regarded as one of the franchise’s most memorable characters.

The announcement trailer also revealed that Eivor, the protagonist of the most recent Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, has also landed herself a spot in the game, but as an Epic Crossover skin. Brawlhalla enjoyers will have to wait less than a few days to try the duo out, as they release July 27. You can view the trailer for the assassin duo here.

Brawlhalla is a free-to-play platform fighter, originally released as an early access title back in 2014. The game was of course inspired by the ever-popular Smash Brothers series, which once stood as the sole proprietor of the genre it invented. Smash Brothers still remains the most popular of its genre, but now there are other relevant players in the platform fighter space who have their own place in the industry and their own consistent player base. One of those is Brawlhalla.

Brawlhalla’s unique twists to the genre’s gameplay formula involve freer aerial movement, which both allows complex off-stage mechanics, but also makes the game more accessible to newcomers. Furthermore, it has a weapon-based system in which different characters can wield different types of weapons that each have their own movesets. The studio behind the game, Blue Mammoth, was purchased by Ubisoft in 2018. Not long after, Rayman was added as a playable legend, so it only makes sense to see more Ubisoft characters joining the fray.

The trailer shows several Ezio gameplay clips, and fans have mixed but mostly positive reactions to his weapon combination. The character can wield swords and orbs. Though many expected him to have katars since they would match his iconic hidden blades, swords and orbs are being deemed by most as an unexpectedly weird but exciting combination. The trailer went on to show Eivor, and how both his male and female counterparts will be included as skins. It also shows a new free-for-all game mode called Bounty, which seemingly functions by having a player get a bounty mark on them, which passes on to the player that kills them.

Brawlhalla’s most die-hard fans will undoubtedly be there the moment the character drops, but when trying to pull those more prone to dabble in different titles, the game may face some stiff competition. Only the day before on July 26, the highly popular MultiVersus title, which sports some big names in its roster like Lebron James, will become free and accessible to everyone. Thus, Ezio’s release date could prove detrimental, though the timing may have been intentional by Blue Mammoth Games, in order to keep their fans’ attention.
