Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive a long-awaited “major update” with a new DLC expansion being in development.

CD Projekt Red revealed in a recent press release, marking the end of the third quarter of the fiscal 2021/22 year, that the company is “hard at work on the next-gen version of Cyberpunk, scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2022.” The press release revealed that alongside the new-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 would be a “major update” for all platforms and on-going work being made for the new-gen version of The Witcher 3 and the Cyberpunk expansion.

The update will apparently launch during the first three months of the fiscal 2022/23 year, putting it between March and May 2022. The new-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 has recently faced delays, pushing it out of its initial 2021 release window and into 2022. The delay was the latest struggle amongst many for CD Projekt Red when it comes to Cyberpunk, having had a rocky launch.

The press release revealed that an expansion was in the works for Cyberpunk 2077, though no further details have been revealed. Cyberpunk’s previous DLC was a rather small, cosmetic-only download offered to players for free. While the offering wasn’t much, it’s clear the studio is dedicated to providing a heftier batch of content in the future. Whether we’ll see more story content come to the Night City is yet to be revealed, but there’s certainly scope for further narrative exploration.

The new update to Cyberpunk will apparently launch alongside the new-gen versions of the game, on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
