Code S RO20 – Maru and GuMiho advance to RO10

Group C of the round-of-20 saw Terran triumph while Protoss perished, with Maru and GuMiho moving on to the round-of-10 while Classic and Zoun were eliminated.

Maru didn’t have much trouble dispatching Classic 2-0 in his initial match, using direct attacks to roll over his opponent’s attempts to play Phoenix into Zealot-Colossus. GuMiho also won his initial series against Zoun 2-0, benefitting from an unscouted Cloaked Banshee in game one and defending well against 2-Gate pressure from Zoun in game two.

Unsurprisingly, Maru’s elite TvT led him to a 2-0 victory over GuMiho in the winners’ match, sending him to the RO10 in first place from his group. However, the games were not as one-sided as the scoreline, and GuMiho gave a good account of himself by fighting evenly with Maru in Marine-Tank wars for a decent portion of the games.

Unfortunately for Zoun, he exited the group without winning a single map, going down 0-2 to Classic in the losers’ match. Classic defended his Stargate expansion against Zoun’s 1-base pressure on the first map, and then won a comprehensive macro victory on Cosmic Sapphire.

The final duel between military returnees went GuMiho’s way, rewarding the PSISTORM Terran’s recent rise in form. Game one of the decider match saw the two players enter a hectic basetrade on Moondance, with GuMiho narrowly winning after Classic carelessly flew a Prism full of Templars straight into a Mine. GuMiho able to capitalize on his opponent’s mistakes in game two as well, as Classic lost a few too many units while attempting some proxy-Oracle harass. This opened the door for GuMiho to counter-attack and take a fast 2-0 victory.
