The Code S Season 2 qualifiers were held on June 22nd, turning over four spots from season one.

Astrea and SpeCial were the notable non-Korean players to qualify, while TY earned his first Code S appearance after concluding his military service (having failed to make the qualifier cutoff in season one).

Code S Season 2 will be held from July 4th to July 27th. The starting groups for the RO16 will be announced at a later date. While Season 1 was played largely online, the entirety of Season 2 will be played live from the FreecUP studio.

DRG out? Wow. Otherwise, going by the out/in list. no big surprises to me.

Wow surprised by Stats, Innovation, DRG not making it, dang… but at least TY made it! Also grats to Astrea and Special, that’ll be good for viewership, as well as having another Protoss!

Grats to Nightmare making it again… surprised considering his performance the last couple years of barely ever getting into GSL.

Really feels that 16 is a little too thin

Maybe in a year’s time that cutoff may be required but it feels that there’s still enough quality players of comparative competitive quality who we’ll miss seeing with the format changes

24 would give space for the usual suspects, the few foreigners who are still giving the Korea thing a shot, and a couple remaining for some new blood to get established

I agree that with the current field (the established scene + returnees + foreigners) 16 feels a bit low.

Yeah 20 would be much better than 16 even, if we’re going to not do the Ro10 RR thing and thus have less days in the studio, then maybe we can go back up to Ro20 at least, and just have 1 more group or something?

Seriously impressive stuff from Special and Astrea to qualify for this round, the qualifiers are extremely competitive now.

Sad to see DRG out. but he’s been having a bit of a mixed run lately. He basically got replaced by Ragnarok who’s in a very similar spot.

Hard to see how the usual favorites aren’t still favorites again this season though. Maru obviously followed by Dark, Gumiho, Solar, Bunny, Byun and Cure.

Maybe herO has some tricks up his sleeves for us this season? How is TY going to look coming back, and will Classic be able to show anything better than his most recent form against Serral in PvZ?

All questions that remain to be seen.

It’s difficult to imagine how the traditional favourites won’t remain favourites this year. Naturally, Dark, Gumiho, Solar, Bunny, Byun, and Cure came in front of Maru.
