Cyberpunk: Edgerunners official trailer introduces you to the crew

The Netflix anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, was revealed months before Cyberpunk 2077 hit the market. Excitement for the animated series was likely a bit higher before the game launched as a broken mess. But leave it to Netflix and the series creator Studio Trigger to keep their heads high as they surfed the wave of negativity. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tells a separate story in Night City, and today we got to see some of it in its official trailer. It’s looking good.

I’m throwing out a content warning for this one: the official trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is not for the kiddos. It opens up with the kind of blood fountains that would make Quentin Tarantino blush. The show is clearly cyberpunk to the core, so expect wanton violence, course language, cyborg nudity, and, oh, wanton violence.

Beyond those bits, the trailer introduces us to some of the show’s unruly cast. The story is told from the perspectives of the Edgerunner Crew, led by David. There’s also the gorilla-armed Maine, Dorio, Kiwi (who’s not fond of dressing up), Pilar, Lucy, and the foul-mouthed Rebecca.

I didn’t mention it, but there are also a lot of explosions

The story sees David become on digital outlaw. We get a glimpse of how David fell on this path, showing him as a child alongside his mother before they’re attacked. David uses technology likely to get back at the oppressive corporations that have a strangle hold on the city. Arasaka is name-dropped early on, so I expect it’ll stand as the official antagonist group in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

“The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future,” reads the show’s description. “Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will premier on Netflix this September.
