Demon’s Souls Fool’s Idol Boss Guide | Don’t be a Fool

The Fool’s Idol is just one of the many annoying bosses in Demon’s Souls. You’ll be fighting it in both the original PS3 game and the PS5 remake. There’s no way around it, you’ve got to take it on. Luckily, we’ve got some tips to help you take it down as painlessly as possible. Get ready to be made into a complete fool though, this is a tough one.

Attacks

The Fool’s Idol has a single attack, but it’s always the same. It’ll cone itself around the arena, and then fire Soul Arrows at you. All the clones can shoot you with these Souls Arrows, and they’ll put you down fast if you don’t dodge and avoid them effectively.

Tactics

The key with this boss, if you haven’t already guessed, is to find the real version of it and attack it. However, there’s also a prisoner in the same area, before you fight the boss, that you need to free before you start the fight.

If you don’t free the prisoner, they will keep on healing the boss. This turns the fight into an endless one, and you’ll only escape it when you finally die.

Once you’ve taken care of the prisoner, it’s time to focus on how to track down the real Fool’s Idol.

The real boss will fire a larger spell at you. The clones will only fire weaker, smaller spells. If you pay close attention to the attacks being sent your way, you should be able to track down the real boss pretty quickly.

The boss will create clones a few times throughout the fight. Some players prefer to take down all the clones before attacking. This means that there is less damage flying around the arena. While that’s true, it also wastes time that could be better spent harming the boss.

You can easily kill the boss at range, but getting your attacks to land can be an issue with all the obstructions. Most players go for a melee strategy, but bow and arrow or magic attacks will work just as well. There’s no one strategy that will make your life easier though.

Watch Your Step

You may have noticed that there were flashing runes on the floor at the start of the fight. These are magic traps that will stun anyone who steps on them. If that’s you, it’ll leave you open to attacks from all the clones and the Fool’s Idol.

You have two options here. The first is to take note of all the runes and avoid them. (https://bettysco.com/) This is the tactic that most players use, since you’re only in the arena for a short amount of time. However, not everyone is able to do this.

An alternative tactic here is to let the two prisoners in the room roam into the stun traps. It doesn’t always work, and they’ll attack the player if they get the chance, but it’s better than stumbling into them and getting locked in for a set of attacks.
