Deshaun Watson Suspended 11 Games

The NFL and Deshaun Watson have agreed on a punishment to avoid any further litigation by judges. The punishment will consist of an 11 game suspension and a $5 million fine. He will not be available to play his first game for the Browns until Week 13 of the 2022-2023 season, in which they play Watson’s former team, the Texans.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.

Watson had over 20 sexual assault allegations hanging over him stemming from his behavior during massage sessions. Originally, he was suspended six games by Judge Sue L. Robinson after both sides made their cases. The NFL made it very clear that was not enough games for their liking, and planned on appealing the ruling, looking for at least a full season’s worth of games for his suspension.

Despite the allegations hanging over him, the Browns traded for Watson and gave him an unprecedented contract. Cleveland traded away three first rounders, a third rounder and a fourth rounder in exchange for Watson and a sixth round pick. Then, they signed him to a five-year, $230 million deal that is fully guaranteed. He will now miss 11 games despite that fully guaranteed deal.
