Diontae Johnson Signs Extension with Steelers

The Steelers and Diontae Johnson have agreed to a contract extension after a brief “hold-in.” Johnson’s new contract is reportedly worth $39.5 million over two years. $27 million of the new contract is guaranteed to the fourth-year receiver.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.

Johnson was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Toledo. Since being drafted, he has earned a Second Team All-Pro nod in 2019 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2021. This is his first contract after his rookie deal.

In 2021, his only Pro Bowl year, Johnson played in 16 games (14 starts), racking up 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns on 107 receptions. He gave up his return duties last season, which had previously peaked at 20 returns and a touchdown in 2019.
