3 Possible Trade Destinations for Derrick Brown

Defensive tackle Derrick Brown is one of the Carolina Panthers on the trade block after the team has started 1-5. Carolina has fired their head coach, Matt Rhule, and their defensive coordinator Phil Snow. Now, many talented Panthers are being shopped around the league as a result.

There are a fair few teams who could benefit from Brown’s presence on their defensive lines. Here are three possible trade destinations for Derrick Brown.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings may be the quietest 5-1 team in recent memory. Granted, the only “good” teams they’ve beaten have been the Dolphins with a third-string quarterback and a Packers team that cannot get anything going offensively.

Their only loss came to the 6-0 Philadelphia Eagles who moved the ball at will, especially on the ground late in the game. A way to make sure this doesn’t happen again is by grabbing a talented defensive tackle like Brown. He could be a key piece to not only making the playoffs, but winning a game or two while they’re there.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns are 2-4 through six weeks as they wait for their high-priced quarterback, Deshaun Watson, to return from suspension. While their offensive running game is one of the best in the league, their defense has trouble stopping the run.

Receivers and overall cohesion on the offense are needed at the trade deadline, but an easy way to mitigate the damage is to shore up the defense. Given that the Browns have surrendered the most rushing touchdowns in the league, Brown could be that run-stopper on the inside of the defensive line to help shift the identity of this team as it enters a new era.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have one of (if not the) worst run defenses in the entire NFL. They own the worst yards-per-carry numbers in the league at 5.6. This has led opposing teams to rush against them with regularity, as they’ve faced the sixth-most runs through six weeks.

Los Angeles has designs on getting back to the postseason, and they need to add some pieces to make that happen. Some of their flaws come due to injuries, but the bulk of their defensive talent comes in pass coverage and pass rush. The Chargers need a game-changer in the middle.
