Whilst we maintain that the kings of all vertically-scrolling, bullet-hell games are Sky Force Anniversary and Sky Force Reloaded, it appears that another is trying to take the crown. Overdriven Evolution on Xbox, from TOMAGameStudio, has you dodging literally thousands of bullets, whilst trying to find the gap in incoming fire to send back some of your own.

Destroy the Empire!

Overdriven Evolution is now available on Xbox, following a September 2022 release on PC and Switch.

As a solo player, or with up to three others in local co-op, your goal is to take down the dastardly Kruuthian Emperor. Along the way, you’ll collect dozens of alien artifacts and space cows (??? – yeah, we’re not sure either), and work your way through a number of hours of non-stop action.

Each run will see you up against different bullet patterns and even more difficult bosses. There’s seven unique game modes to try out, ensuring you won’t tire of the bullet-hell action.

Seven Modes:

STORY: 4 Difficulties: EASY · NORMAL · HARD · NIGHTMARE
ARCADE: Can you beat the game with only a few continues?
MANIC: Test your true arcade skills with no health bar.
THE LINE: Use all your knowledge and mastery to keep enemies away from the red line.
10 CHALLENGES: Replay each stage with a specific goal.
COLOR-REFLEX: Involving 56 new and improved Puzzle-Maps mixing match3 and shmup!
BOSS-RUSH: Use everything you have as an expert pilot to beat all the bosses at once.

And further features

3 different spaceships to take on these challenges, one of which you will need to unlock.
Make sure you collect all 50 alien artifacts, find the 10 hidden space cows, and complete the 75 Achievements
Beat your best score in the online Leaderboards for all modes and difficulties
Listen to the original instrumental soundtrack available on the game menu.
