Dragon Age & Mass Effect DLC Available For Free Following BioWare Points Removal

EA has reached out to players via email to inform them that the digital currency BioWare points are set to be scrapped, making several DLCs for Dragon Age and Mass Effect free of charge.

DLC packs for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 will all be available free of charge going forward. The remaining BioWare points players have in their account can be spent on Mass Effect 3 multiplayer packs before the currency is retired forever starting October 11.

BioWare points were an old currency from back when EA was pushing Origin quite heavily. You’d have to buy BioWare points in order to then spend them on content for the games. This system wasn’t utilised at all for newer titles like Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda.

As the best way to play the Mass Effect trilogy is by playing the Legendary Edition which contains almost all of the DLC packaged in, this change primarily affects owners of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2.

Dragon Age: Origins has a lot of story DLC which is now free and Dragon Age 2 has an expansion with very key plot implications for Dragon Age Inquisition.

BioWare’s next project is Dragon Age Dreadwolf, though the release date is currently unknown. We do know that Dreadwolf will not be released during the 2022 fiscal year.

Dreadwolf will build on the story of Dragon Age Inquisition, particularly on the character arc of one specific character, and will be set in the Tevinter Imperium. Besides these two morsels of information, there isn’t a lot known about the upcoming Dragon Age instalment.

As for Mass Effect, we likely won’t see another game in the series for quite a while considering the studio is fully focused on Dreadwolf.
