Edgerrin Cooper 2024 NFL Draft Profile

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Edgerrin Cooper 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Edgerrin Cooper Background

Cooper had a solid career at Texas A&M, but really stood out this past season. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a four-star prospect in the class of 2020, Cooper signed with Texas A&M out of Louisiana. He redshirted his first year on campus and only registered two tackles. Cooper made one start in 2021, registering 58 total tackles and one interception. He started most of the games in 2022, totaling 61 tackles, eight tackles for loss and one interception. His play aided the Aggies, but they went 5-7 on the season. Cooper returned for 2023, tallying 84 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

Following the season, Cooper decided to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day-two pick.

Edgerrin Cooper Strengths

Cooper will rank as one of the more athletic linebackers in the class. He has good quickness, speed and agility. His reactive quickness is especially encouraging, as once he sees the play he can trigger downhill quickly. He has solid flexibility as well.

He has the ability to be great against the run in certain regards. Cooper has good range and shows good effort to get to the football. He can evade blockers and play through traffic to get to the ball carrier. Once he sees the play is a run, he comes downhill quickly and can even make plays behind the line of scrimmage.

Especially in his last season in college, Cooper showed the ability to blitz well. His quickness and flexibility help him get through blocks quickly. He then is a heat-seeking missile after the quarterback and can come down with a sack. Not only can he blitz, but he was also used as a quarterback spy often and did a good job of keeping quarterbacks in front of him.

Edgerrin Cooper Weaknesses

He was listed at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, but may measure in smaller than that at the NFL Combine. Cooper will need to add strength to his frame, as he looks like he can fill it out a bit more. This added strength can help him shed quicker, which would help him be a more effective run defender.

Cooper can be a tick slow to diagnose plays. He sometimes can be fooled by play action and misdirection. He can get out of position by reading plays wrong. Cooper needs to read his keys and trust them better to be a successful starting linebacker at the next level.

His greediness can get him into trouble. Cooper sometimes will try to take shortcuts to the ball and can be out of position. On top of that, his effort to get to the football is great, but he can take more efficient routes to ball carriers. Plugging his hole and fulfilling his role can help his team better.
