Elden Ring: How To Beat Morgott, the Omen King

Morgott the Omen King serves as a sort of gatekeeper for different areas within Elden Ring, more specifically late-game areas. For those fairly familiar with most of the game’s enemies, Morgott opens the fight with fighting style players will find familiar. Unlike a lot of bosses in this game, he’s not very unpredictable and reuses his attacks often, allowing players to anticipate what comes next. However, he’s still a powerful enemy that deals considerable damage and paying very close attention to where he is and his attack cues will help bring him down. Morgott is a non-optional boss and describes himself as the “Last of All Kings” and is also Margit, the Fell Omen. For the Mountaintops of the Giants to become accessible, Morgott the Omen King must be defeated.

Attack Strategies

Because Morgott the Omen King and Margit the Fell Omen are the same, Morgott will reuse his attacks from before as Margit. Speaking of the two being the same, Margit’s Shackle can still be used during this boss fight despite the name differences. However, he will not be able to be stunned by the Shackle in Phase 2. Morgott is strong against Holy and Sleep effects, but weak to Physical attacks. A lot of his attacks start with Morgott creating a holy weapon, each has a corresponding format in which he exudes the weapon. For extra help, players can summon other players online or Spirit Ashes.

Phase 1

• Holy Rain – Morgott will have holy blades emerge above him before they crash downward, creating a rain effect. As they fall, they’ll create a star formation while simultaneously cutting away parts of the arena. This will occur when Morgott’s health is about 80%. When the holy blades are above his head, dodge out of the way and stay keen on avoiding him entirely because the holy rain will be fixated around Morgott. This is an opportune time for ranged players to attack him from afar.
• Swiping – Morgott will fling his tail wildly, attempting to make a hit. The best way to avoid getting hit by the tail is to roll backward, away from him.

Phase 2

• Explosion – Once players have diminished Morgott’s health by half, he’ll struggle due to being stunned, then he’ll start yelling. Once he does this, a powerful eruption will ensue where an unfamiliar liquid seeps from within the ground and across the arena. When this occurs, which is unavoidable, run away from the energy impact. Alternatively, rolling towards Morgott right as he begins this maneuver will give the player a chance to heal and use ranged attacks against him.
• Spear Throw – Morgott will conceive a holy spear and then he’ll drive it forward. Sometimes he’ll follow this move with a swing of his blade. To counter this, move as close as possible against him and sprint under the arm with the spear in hand, or roll towards it. Be cautious of the following sword swipe and be careful rolling in certain directions.
• Holy Spear – Morgott will once again conceive a holy spear and will drive it towards the player. Alternatively, he’ll leap and aim to impale the player. To avoid getting hit by the spear, roll dodging to either side (left or right) will suffice.
• Holy Dagger – Morgott will conceive multiple daggers, thrusting each at the player in a semi-circle arrangement. He might follow this up by swiftly dashing and may repeat this more than once after the first time. Rolling in any direction to dodge where the daggers end up is the best way to avoid getting hit. It’s important to note that Morgott will be keen on using this attack when the player is in the middle of healing.
Swap Combo – This is probably the most damage-inflicting combo Morgott has up his sleeve. He’ll quickly attack with both his dagger and sword in his hands while interchanging between his hammer and holy sword. This attack happens very quickly and it’s not one that you want to get tangled in. He’ll begin swapping weapons after the dagger/sword attacks and he’ll end it with the hammer, leaving a crashing and devastating ground smash. To avoid this, try to position yourself behind him as much as possible. Alternatively, running away entirely (in any direction) will do, too.
• Cursed-Blood Slice – Morgott will bring his sword over himself, and a bloody aura will seep from it. An explosion will take place before he begins slashing the sword downward. The key in this slice is the trails of explosions that follow. Morgott’s aim isn’t perfect, and this move is an ideal time to begin healing while maneuvering away and around him in a circular motion. However, do not stray too far from whatever attack follows this one.

• Holy Hammer Combo – Morgott will conceive a hammer, also known as a holy hammer, and he’ll quickly sprint to the player. He’ll then lunge himself airborne and come crashing down with the holy hammer and his blade in both palms. To avoid getting hit, roll dodge away from him. Because he slices his sword to the right and tries to roll to the left when he comes back down to avoid the blade strike.
• Dashing Combo – Morgott will use his quick mobility to his advantage on this combo. He’ll move from left to right in a fast, dashing motion. Each time he goes to the left or right, he’ll swipe his sword once. Unpredictably he may also begin stabbing in a forward motion. Alternatively, he’ll do some cartwheels instead of shifting from left to right. Unlike other moves, getting close to him can be counterintuitive as it can lead to getting hit by the following attack, especially when he’s dashing or doing cartwheels.
• Holy Sword – Morgott will conceive a holy sword and swipe it around a couple of times, following it up with his sword with a similar motion. He might also swipe up with both swords and smash them on the ground. To avoid getting hit, move away from the sword and maneuver around his body in a circular motion, attacking him on the opposite side he’s attacking.
• Holy Hammer – This move is a bit more predictable than most of his attacks. Morgott will conceive a holy hammer a slam it into the ground. He may or may not follow this up with a spin-slash of the sword. To avoid getting hit, roll dodging in any direction to get away should suffice. Getting hit by his hammer will stagger you.
• Holy Hammer Slam – Similar to the last attack, Morgott will create a holy hammer and instead of smashing it, he’ll first perform a lunge into the air before doing so. However, he’ll have both the sword and hammer in both hands while doing so. To avoid getting hit, do not roll to the sides – roll either forward or backward.
• Cursed-Blood Thrust – Morgott will summon an aura of blood around his blade and attempt to impale the player. They avoid getting impaled, avoid going back and try roll dodging to the sides or forward.
