Elden Ring Stats: Everything you need to know to spec your build

Elden Ring stats are one of the first things you’ll need to understand to start planning your build properly. As with any RPG, stats are going to help you not only wield the spells and weapons you want, but also get more damage out of them too. It’s all about knowing what you’re planning on doing ahead of time, and the simplest way to do that is to have a breakdown of the Elden Ring stats.

What we decided would make the most sense, was to simply lay out what each of the stats is, and what it affects, along with some examples of weapon or spell types they influence. There are a few outliers here too, because FromSoftware simply loves to give us stats that feel esoteric. But hey, we love it.

Elden Ring stats explained

  • Vigor, or VIG, is the first stat. It’s the stat responsible for your health bar, and it’s one you should consider upgrading every couple of levels or so to make sure you can survive more than a couple of hits from whatever monstrosity lies around the next corner. There’s nearly always a bigger monstrosity too, so respect your vigor.
  • Mind is the stat that governs your FP. This is the resource you need to use special weapon arts, utilise any spells you have, and also the one needed to summon spirits. If you’re looking at building a spellcaster of any kind, then this will be essential. This stat also grants more spell slots too, which is handy.
  • Endurance is in charge of your stamina bar and equip load. This is another one that you’ll likely want to put points in semi-regularly. Nearly every action in Elden Ring requires stamina, so more stamina means more actions. Plus, being able to up your equip load means faster rolling even with heavier armour on.

  • Strength is the first of the damage stats. It’s responsible for the damage you deal with weapons that tend to be slower but hit harder. It also allows you to wield said weapons. Keep an eye on this if you’re planning on using things like greatswords or clubs.
  • Dexterity is the stat that boosts faster weapons like daggers and bows. It also tends to be a secondary buff for most other weapons too, which is nice. Plus, having more dexterity also boosts your spell casting speed, so it’s a nice backup stat for spellcasters.

Elden Ring Review NPCs

  • Intelligence is the stat that boosts the power of sorceries. It also allows you to use those spells in the first place. It’s also relevant to some incantations too, but this is a stat mostly for those looking to use glintstone spells.
  • Faith is responsible for certain incantations, but also for the odd sorcery here and there. It’s the one you’ll want to take if you’re interested in holy spells, and those that heal and support.
  • Arcane boosts the damage of some sorceries and some incantations. It’s a bit like a tertiary stat for them that only pops up in special cases. On top of that, it also boosts your item discovery rate, which means you’ll get better drops from enemies more often.
