Fable Reboot Has New Narrative Lead

Anna Megill will be taking over as narrative lead for Playground Games’ Fable reboot.

The reboot of the Fable series was teased back in 2020 with a small trailer. Microsoft’s choice of Playground Games to take up the mantle of the beloved series was an interesting one considering the studio has exclusively developed the successful-yet-different Forza Horizon series.

Megill is an award-winning narrative designer and writer who previously worked as the lead writer on Control and the narrative lead on Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. She had previously been working on the team as a lead writer but will now act as the narrative lead going forward.

“Some exciting news to end the week. I’m now the narrative lead on Fable. Woo!” Megill’s tweet read.

Not much is known about the upcoming Fable project, besides a Phil Spencer interview (via IGN) where he stated the game would be released before Elder Scrolls 6. Spencer also mentioned the game would be retaining both its “light-hearted” tone and its distinct sense of “Britishness.”

Fable 3 was released over a decade ago and saw the player character becoming Albion’s monarch under the guidance of Theresa, as usual. Despite each of the original three games being set in different time periods, their plots are heavily interlinked. It’s unknown if this will hold true for the reboot as the seeress Theresa is presumed dead after the events of Fable: The Journey.

Playground may take this opportunity to put their own stamp on the series, leaving behind the characters of the original trilogy to carve out their own story. This is all speculation as very little is known about the reboot, only time will tell. Hopefully, the game receives a re-reveal soon.

With Megill behind the narrative wheel, Fable is in good hands.
