Falcons to Start Desmond Ridder in Week 15

The Atlanta Falcons are making a change at quarterback in Week 15. Marcus Mariota is being benched in favor of rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder, after the bye week. This will be the first start of his NFL career.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.

In 13 games this season, Mariota has a completion percentage of 61.3 percent. He has 2,219 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions, on his way to leading the Falcons to a 5-8 record. He’s also rushed for 438 yards and four more scores.

Ridder was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 74th overall pick. He was previously the quarterback for the University of Cincinnati Bearcat team that became the first non-Power 5 team to make the College Football Playoff.
