Fortnite: TaySon Wins Record Fourth FNCS Title, Hen & Chapix With Their Second

TaySon expands his legacy and captures his fourth FNCS victory alongside Season 5 Champs Hen and Chapix.

Professional Fortnite player Tai “Falcon TaySon” Starčič cemented himself as one of, if not the best of all time following his fourth Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) victory this past weekend. This time out, TaySon teamed with former FNCS winners Henrik “GUILD Hen” Mclean and Moussa “Falcon Chapix” El Faour in the season-ending FNCS Grand Royale. With a staggering share of $5M USD on the line, these three players had all the motivation and ability required to compete against Europe’s best teams.

FNCS Grand Royale Qualifiers

The path would not be easy. TaySon, Hen and Chapix first had to qualify through the Grand Royale “Load Session” and earn a Victory Royale in the ensuing “Victory Path” last weekend. They accomplished that feat early in the competition, allowing them to avoid more than 20 possible Fortnite matches consecutively and conserve energy for the $5M USD finale. It was a moment TaySon, Hen and Chapix have thrived in so many times before, and, surprisingly, not many picked them to win.

An Admirable Day One Effort

Thirty-three Trios threw their hat in the ring for more than $2M USD—the most of any region in the FNCS Grand Royale. TaySon, Hen and Chapix eased themselves into the pool of sharks to open the tournament. The three former FNCS Champions managed 183 points across six matches, including one Victory Royale and 31 eliminations.

However, victory would not come without resistance, as fellow contenders Aleksa “Queasy” Cvetkovic, Thomas “AST Th0masHD” Høxbro Davidsen and Anas “GUILD Anas” El-Abd completed the day with 200 points. TaySon’s team needed to overcome some talented adversaries if they hoped to come out on top.

TaySon, Hen and Chapix Thrive Under Pressure and Double Points

In traditional sports, games are often won in the closing moments, and Fortnite is not much different. The intricate Grand Royale format meant that all points values from day one would double on day two. Eliminations would be worth four points instead of two, and Victory Royales yielded 60 points instead of 30.

TaySon, Hen and Chapix took full advantage of the double points on day two. The three proven winners claimed a Victory Royale in game number eight and another in the penultimate game 11. Heading into the final match, TaySon, Hen and Chapix had 545 points—49 more than the team in second. That team just so happened to be Chapter 2 – Season 8 Champions Michał “Kami” Kamiński, Iwo “BL Setty” Zając and Maciej “GXR Teeq” Radzio.

The tournament triumph was within reach, but TaySon, Hen and Chapix could not afford to fall early in the final game. All three players made it to the end game and ultimately finished 12th with only two eliminations. It became evident as Kami, Setty and Teeq exited the lobby in seventh that no one would catch TaySon and company.

As the final leaderboard flashed across the screen, TaySon, Hen and Chapix stood victorious, with 66 eliminations and three Victory Royales across both days. Each player’s legacy elevated to new heights, but TaySon cemented himself as an all-time great.

Another Career-Defining Win

The three FNCS Grand Royale Champions took to Twitter to enjoy the entire community’s embrace. TaySon wrote, “1st place GRAND ROYALE LETS ****** GOOOO,” before going live on his Twitch channel, where he said there’s no better feeling. Hen and Chapix echoed a similar sentiment in their response to winning $600K USD and capping off Fortnite Chapter 2 with yet another major victory.

No player can rival TaySon’s success in the COVID-19 online era of Fortnite. Starting in Chapter 2 – Season 3, the Slovenian put himself on the map, winning that season’s Solo FNCS. He joined legends Kyle “FaZe Mongraal” Jackson and Dmitri “mitr0” Van de Vrie one season later in Chapter 2 – Season 4 to earn his second FNCS victory back-to-back. TaySon subsequently finished eighth in Chapter 2 – Season 5 and third in Chapter 2 – Season 6 before winning the inaugural FNCS Solo All-Star Showdown.

The Slovenian’s All-Star victory secured him $150K USD and his third FNCS triumph in five seasons. Chapter 2 – Season 8 was a throwaway for TaySon, who finished 13th alongside Chapix and Rezon. He returned to the winner’s circle once again less than one month later, grabbing himself $200K USD in the FNCS Grand Royale Finals. TaySon is on his way to earning a second Player of the Year award after receiving it in 2020.

According to Fortnite Tracker, TaySon has collected more than $700K USD in tournament winnings without competing offline a single time. With LANs hopefully back in 2022, the Falcon Esports representative has a chance to add more to his bankroll and prove his ability in the ultimate competitive Fortnite environment. Until then, he can relish in the position of a four-time FNCS Champion.
