Get Oak’s Letter and Shaymin in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl today!

As part of their Pokémon Day celebration stream for the 26th anniversary of the original Pokémon games’ release, The Pokémon Company announced a free bonus gift coming to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Pokémon Shining Pearl.

From today, 27th February, until Sunday 27th March, people loading up the game can receive Oak’s Letter and add the mythical Pokémon Shaymin to their collection. Shaymin is, of course, the Gratitude Pokémon.

Pokemon BdSP Shaymin Unlock

You’ll be able to encounter Shaymin in-game after entering the Hall of Fame and obtaining the National Pokédex (which happens roughly two hours after you start playing).

You’ll only be able to catch on Shaymin per save file and will need an internet connection in order to claim it.

We had a great time revisiting Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl with these 3D remakes. Writing for our Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Pokémon Shining Pearl review, Jason said:

“I’ve had an absolute blast with Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and I know there’s plenty more for me to see thanks to their sheer size. With changes that lean mostly toward quality of life improvements, this is a firm reminder that Pokémon games can be extraordinary and one of the most enjoyable remakes I’ve played in a long time.”

The announcement of Shaymin was far, far from the biggest news on the Pokémon Presents stream. The Pokémon Company also had a healthy content update for Pokémon Legends Arceus, adding a new Investigation and some new features to the game… oh, and they announced the next mainline entries in the Pokémon series. Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet will launch for Nintendo Switch in late 2022, presumably bringing a lot of the new and revised gameplay ideas from Pokémon Legends Arceus back into the main game series. That would be rather popular, considering the relatively negative reaction that Pokémon Sword & Shield received from the series’ die hard fans.
