Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will shut down January 2022

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the mobile game by Niantic and Warner Bros, will be closed down on January 31st it has been confirmed. This means that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be removed from the App Store, Google Play, and the Samsung Store on December 6th, with the social media channels and community forum also being shut down on January 31st. The game has been running since June 2019, so closes with just over 2.5 years in operation.

Before Harry Potter: Wizards Unite closes down there will be a number of events, including the release of the remaining Lethal Adversaries, as well as gameplay changes from today to allow players to get the most out of the experience. These changes include:

• All Daily Assignments will have their rewards increased
• All Potion Brew times will be reduced by 50% with Master Notes
• The daily cap on sending and opening Gifts will be removed
• Barrufio’s Brain Elixir potion will now award 3× player XP
• 1920s Portkey Portmanteaus will appear on the map more frequently and associated Fragment rewards will be doubled
• Spell Energy and Ingredients will appear on the map more frequently

Niantic has announced that players will not be able to get refunds on past purchases in the game, except for where the law compels the company to provide them. In app purchases will be turned off on December 6th, and players will have until January 31st to spend any remaining balances. In our review for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Nic wrote:

If you like Pokémon Go but you’re more invested in the Harry Potter Wizarding World, then this game may be for you. Pokémon Go has matured incredibly well since launch, so perhaps Wizards Unite will follow the same path to success, but for now, there isn’t much to be excited about. If you were hoping that Wizards Unite would rival the cultural phenomenon that was and is Pokémon Go, you’ll be bitterly disappointed.
