Dragon’s Dogma 2: Where to find Astracite

Players who want to collect Astracite can do so while exploring the world at night. Astracite is dropped by mysterious ghost-like enemies called Phantoms, who only come out during nighttime and are usually found traveling in packs. I had the best luck finding Phantoms north of Vernworth. Below shows a close up of what these enemies look like:

Keep in mind that defeating a Phantom doesn’t guarantee that Astracite will drop. Considering it’s a rare material in the game, it may take a few trips through the night and defeating multiple Phantoms to get just one Astracite. To put this into perspective, it took me about 20 Phantoms kills to receive one Astracite. Most of the time, you will receive Miasmite.

In other words, it comes down to persistence and luck. It also comes down to preparation, considering that Phantoms can be pretty challenging. I recommend reading our guide on the best ways to prepare for nighttime so you can stay alive for as long as possible while hunting for Astracite.

You may also encounter traveling merchants with Astracite for sale. You’ll know you’re approaching a merchant on the road if you spot an NPC has a large backpack on.

I haven’t had much luck getting a large amount of Astracite this way, although I have noticed the rare material in one merchant’s inventory on the road north of Vernworth. Traveling merchants change spots, so it’s hard to pinpoint their exact locations. Regardless, make sure always to stop and check the inventory of traveling merchants when you find one.

Astracite is an upgrade material that can enhance your weapons and armor at the armorer. It is usually applied towards levels two and three of a gear piece, requiring two Astracites to complete the upgrade. However, sometimes an upgrade will require three Astracites.

I have noticed that Astracite is usually required for Mystic Spearhand and Sorcerer equipment. That said, the game has tons of gear, so it’s hard to determine if these are the only two vocations that require Astracite.

Speaking of gear, are you wondering if you should buy or find weapons? The answer may surprise you, so make sure to check out our guide on PC Invasion.
