IHC defend Major slot at Asia RMR; Rare Atom eliminated

IHC have secured the first of two IEM Rio Major Challengers Stage spots on offer in the IEM Road to Rio Asia RMR after beating JiJieHao International in the first round and Grayhound 2-0 in the upper final.

The Mongolian squad will make their second Challengers Stage appearance in a row after having won the Asian RMR ahead of PGL Major Antwerp.

IHC won the Asia RMR for the second consecutive time

Chinese side Rare Atom have bowed out of the competition in last place following a 1-2 loss to JiJieHao International in the lower bracket final. Their exit from the tournament leaves China with no representatives at the Major for the second consecutive time, after TYLOO were unable to qualify for the Antwerp event earlier this year.

One more spot in Rio is left to be determined with Grayhound and JiJieHao International set to face in an all-or-nothing match taking place on Sunday at 05:00 .

The IEM Rio Major team list looks as follows after IHC clinched the latest spot:

TBD*
United States Liquid
North America Evil Geniuses
Russia Spirit
Russia Cloud9
Denmark Sprout

* Liquid will play Evil Geniuses for a Legends spot on Sunday

** The team with the highest Buchholz score between Spirit, Cloud9, and Sprout will automatically clinch a Legends spot, and the other two will play for another in a 4th-place decider on Sunday
