Jacque Vaughn Signs Multiple Year Extension

Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn had already proven himself worthy enough to ditch the “interim” job title, as the team exercised an option to keep him around through next season. On Tuesday, he signed an extension that will ensure his services past 2023-2024.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.

As a player, Vaughn stuck around the NBA from 1997-2009, playing for six teams. These teams include the Nets, who he now coaches and the Spurs, with whom he won an NBA Finals back in 2007. His head coaching career began in 2012, when he was hired as the Magic’s head coach (also a team for which he played).

In November of 2022, Vaughn was given the Nets head coaching position in the interim after Steve Nash was fired by the organization. Just nine days later, he was announced as the permanent head coach. Despite trading away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Nets still sit at fourth place in the east with a 34-24 record.
