Kevin Hart, Jack Black’s Borderlands Movie Blows Up Theatres from 9th August, 2024

Eli Roth’s Borderlands movie has been bumbling around Hollywood for years now, with shooting supposedly concluding all the way back in 2021. Despite that, we’re still yet to see a single second of the film, with Deadpool director Tim Miller reportedly returning for some reshoots earlier this year. Well, now the film has a release date: 4th August, 2024. Mark your calendars, we guess?

The adaptation actually has a surprisingly strong cast: two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett will star as Lilith, while Kevin Hart will play Roland and Jack Black will feature as Claptrap. Other cast members include Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr Patricia Tannis, and Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx to name just a few.

The original script for the flick was penned by The Last of Us’ Craig Mazin all the way back in 2015, and he caused a stir earlier this year when he purportedly pulled his name from the film’s credits, allegedly adopting the pseudonym Joe Crombie instead. However, he later denied the reports, saying he’s not a credited writer on the movie at all: “I did see the report about the pseudonym, which is false,” he told Variety. “I did not use a pseudonym. If the name in question is indeed a pseudonym, all I can say is it’s not mine.”

No additional details were announced alongside the release date, but it’s probably safe to assume the film has finally moved past its development hell period, and we’re sure we’ll start to see a few trailers soon. Still, a year is a long time – forgive us while we move this one to the back of our mind for now.
