Kyler Murray Signs 5-Year Contract Extension

The Arizona Cardinals have given Kyler Murray a contract extension. After Murray deleted all ties to the Cardinals on Instagram and a lengthy memo release from his agent spelling out that he wants to be paid, Arizona has locked him up. He is signing a five-year, $230.5 million deal, with $160 million in guaranteed money.

ESPN’s Twitter account reported the news on Thursday afternoon.

Murray’s new deal will ensure he stays under contract through the 2028 season. He is now the second-highest paid quarterback in the NFL per year, at $46.1 million. The only quarterback paid more yearly is Aaron Rodgers, at $50 million per year.

In 2019, Murray was taken first overall by the Cardinals out of the University of Oklahoma. He won Rookie of the Year that season. In 2020 and 2021, he earned consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, and was a big part of the Cardinals returning to the playoffs after the 2021 season. They would lose to their division rivals, the Rams, in the first round by a score of 34-11.
