40-Minute Pause

We have seen many different problems and bugs during the 2022 LCK season, one of the most famous esports tournaments in the world. During the regular season, lots of pauses affected the entertainment level of the competition, as well as the competitive environment. The league officials took some actions to solve the pause problems but it looks like nothing has been solved yet as the problem is now affecting the playoff games. The situation happened in the first leg of the playoffs and it may continue to affect everyone in the ecosystem in the upcoming stages.

DWG KIA and KT Rolster faced each other in the first round of the 2022 LCK Quarter Finals. The first game went as expected but there was a bug in the second match of the series. This time, however, it was a shop-related issue that the league officials tried to solve for 40 minutes but failed to solve. The 40-minute pause affected both players’ and fans’ experience in the first round of the playoffs. It is known that the league was going to take some actions regarding the pauses.

Aiming had Kalista in his hands in the second game of the series and KT Rolster’s top lane choice was Ornn. The champion’s passive upgrades one item of each teammate and the KT Rolstrer top laner used it on Aiming’s Immortal Shieldbow. However, Aiming went to the base to refund the stopwatch that he bought but this act reverted Ornn’s passive on Kalista’s Immortal Shieldbow. The South Korean marksman realized the matter and the KT side immediately took a pause.

Complaints Fall On Deaf Ears

As a matter of fact, KT Rolster made a complaint about it but the league officials decided not to consider the situation as a “bug” and did not use the chronobreak option. The LCK officials have also stated that the situation was not notified beforehand and the decision was made accordingly. KT Rolster had to finish the game with four Ornn items as Aiming lost his. The competition was pretty close until that point but DWG KIA took control of the game in the later stages of the competition and won the second match of the series.

Even though it is not the sole reason for KT Rolsters’s loss but it surely affected both the game mechanics as well as the mental strengths of the players. Ornn’s passive makes the core item of the champion better than before and without it, Kalista’s late-game power is a little lower than expected. This also has huge effects on betting on LoL as these kinds of situations change the result of the games.

KT Rolster is out of the competition as DWG KIA closed out the series after 5 games, 3-2. It is expected from the league officials that these pauses will get fewer in the upcoming games. The decision made the fans outraged.
