Longtime BIG Star syrsoN Steps Away From Active Roster

syrsoN also won’t be taking part in IEM Brazil with BIG.

German side BIG have announced that Florian “syrsoN” Rische has taken himself off of the squad and will not be participating in the upcoming IEM Brazil Closed Qualifier. Sources revealed this update to gaming news outlet Dexerto on Wednesday, following their elimination from IEM Katowice.

The announcement was also dropped on Twitter, and added that the team would be bouncing back with Marcel ”hyped” Kohn as their sniper for the upcoming games. They will be up against the Volodymyr “Woro2k” Veletnjuk-led team Monte on February 8 for the qualifier round.

The German underdogs had an unfortunate run at BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023, finishing inadequately in 7-9th place after winning only one out of four games. However, despite starting strong in the Play-In Stage of Katowice, they faced two straight losses to be booted early from the Group Stage. Defeated first by G2, who recently topped the HLTV World Ranks, Team Spirit subsequently knocked out the German side.

AWPer syrsoN was still a part of the team before the squad took these hits. According to sources, these recent eliminations have led to him stepping down from his role.

The star player has undoubtedly seen better days in his career since 2012. Not that long ago, he was named the tenth-best player of 2020 within the CSGO scene. He has also been an integral part of BIG, landing them achievements more online than in LAN categories.

The 26-year-old AWPer joined the organizations back in 2020 and has been crowned MVP title for winning both at DreamHack Masters Spring and at Roobet Cup 2022. Due to the fact that syrsoN displayed a poorer rating nearly three years down the lane with BIG, his benching right before IEM Brazil was inevitable.

Standing to take his place in the ongoing Brazil Closed Qualifier, excited is expected to pick up the pace. The reasonably new 21-year-old BIG Academy star boasts an impressive rating of 1.12, earning the second-highest within the academy. He will be joining BIG’s new roster for the time being with his fellow academy graduate Karim “Krimbo” Moussa.

For now, it appears that BIG will be moving forward with the following lineup:

  • Nils “k1to” Gruhne
  • Karim “Krimbo” Moussa
  • Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz
  • Marcel “hyped” Kohn
  • Josef “fave!” Baumann
  • Fatih “gob b” Dayik (coach)
  • Florian “syrsoN” Rische (benched)
