Loot Landings: IMC Apex Armories

Apex Legends: Saviors started on May 10, 2022, dropping legends onto a newly developed Storm Point. The Downed Beast washed ashore after the legends killed it in Saviors, giving new life to the northwest of the map. Alongside the beast comes four miniature battlegrounds for weapons and loot: IMC Apex Armories. Here are the reason why Apex Armories are so enticing, and why more players should choose to incorporate them into rotations and gameplay.

A Piñata of Loot

Activating an armory starts a 60 second timer, where waves of specters come alive to fight squads. Four to five specters spawn each wave, with eight waves spawning in total. Certain legends can speed up the process, turning the onslaught of specters into a cakewalk. Seer can throw out his Exhibit to scan all specters for 30 seconds, half of the armory’s duration. Crypto can position his drone to show the exact spawns of all specters in each new wave. Wattson can fence the arena, stopping specters in their tracks from jumping around and wasting time in the wave. A squad carrying one of these legends can immensely speed up their clear times, allowing for the full reward of clearing all eight waves.

Entering an armory shows two racks that hold six weapons, enough to equip a full squad right after the drop. The first wave of loot comes from killing the specters themselves: ammo and healing items. Like the Prowlers and Spiders littered across Storm Point, each specter defeated drops ammo for the player’s weapon type, alongside health syringes. Each wave defeated awards the squad a loot pill, up to two unique pills for each player with specifically designed loot. Hop-ups, purple or gold equipment and attachments are all possible, giving all three members a chance to gear up for the next fight. Clearing the seventh and eighth wave spawns neutral pill boxes, which can be accessed by any member of the squad. Apex Armories serve as both an amazing rotation spot and a viable drop location at the beginning of a match.

An Impenetrable Safe Haven

Following the newest patch in the Awakening Collection Event, the IMC armories have been rendered impervious to all third-party threats. Ash cannot Phase Tear into them, Tridents can’t block the jump pad from above and grenades can’t fall into the cracks from above. The Awakening patch notes addresses each of these possibilities, making these techniques now impossible to perform.

Apex Armories automatically open up a minute after successfully completing them, but still can serve as bastions of safety. Taking the jump pad will close the roof, leaving the ramp as the only way inside and out. Gunfire and airstrikes cannot pierce though, allowing time to heal and reset after an ambush or a fight. Although the jump pad will disable and roof will close after a short while, the reprieve gives teams to formulate a strategy of how to take their next rotation or fight.

IMC Armories arrived to the Apex Games in Season 13, and are here to stay on Storm Point. With four locations scattered around the map, these serve as both great looting spots and safe zones within chaotic fights or ambushes. Armories bring a substantial amount of loot for a short combat challenge just like spider and prowler nests. The building itself also serves as a great spot for healing between fights, or repositioning away entirely.
