Lost Caverns of Ixalan Previews from Magic Con Vegas

Lost Caverns of Ixalan Previews from Magic Con Vegas

Magic players are gathering around Las Vegas this weekend for another eventful Magic Con. In addition to the 29th World Championship tournament happening this weekend, Wizards of the Coast is bringing along some previews of the newest sets in Standard and beyond. The first of the previews is for the next Standard set, Lost Caverns of Ixalan. In this return to Ixalan, players will uncover more secrets of the dinosaur-filled plane as they explore the depths of the center of the plane.

Note: This will be updated as more previews are shown throughout the day

Lost Caverns of Ixalan Previews

As the previews slowly roll out on X (Twitter), Wizards of the Coast is focusing on revealing the art for several key cards players will see in the set.

Gishath

Gishath makes another triumphant appearance as one of the biggest, angriest dinosaurs on the plane. The Sun’s Avatar will most likely to the top-side of this plane. Not sure a giant tyrannosaurus rex wants to be spelunking into a mysterious cavernous maze.

Kellan, Daring Traveler

With the Omenpaths open for business, it looks like Kellan is done hanging out on Eldraine and heads to the sunny beaches of Ixalan, with sweet new swords as well.

Quintorius

The lorehold loremaster himself has finally sparked and planeswalked to Ixalan. Looks like Quintorius will get a chance to collaborate with the unique spirits of Ixalan.

Saheeli, the Sun’s Brilliance

A now desparked Saheeli is still hanging out on Ixalan with her partner Huatli.

Huatli, Poet of Unity

As one of the biggest names in Ixalan, it is only fitting that Huatli receives the first official card preview in the set. This desparked version of Huatli has a unique ability that flips her into a saga. Wizards of the Coast mentions that this is in line with her identity as a warrior-poet, fighting and returning to tell the tale of her battles.

It is interesting to see the color identity of the saga, as players will notice the red/white/green circle in the bottom left-hand side.

The Skullspore Nexus

Woah! A surprise mythic with a unique “Borderless Oltec” design that will be featured throughout the set. No doubt this card serves as an important story beat for the characters of the set.

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might

Players saw Ojer Axonil’s main art previously in an earlier preview segment, but now we all get to see what this funky-looking god can do. Ojer Axonil is a creature that flips into a land when it is destroyed, and can come back again as a creature given a certain condition is met. Truly a neat way to give a card indestructible without using the keyword.

Cavern of Souls

A much needed reprint finally hits Standard as Cavern of Souls makes it’s entry into the set.

Even better, Cavern of Souls will receive the ink treatments that players saw previously in Kamigawa Neon Dyansty

Breeches, Eager Pillager

You bet pirates are absolutely back in this iteration of Ixalan. Breeches, Eager Pillager leads the charge for these marauding band of thieves, giving a bonus to the player whenever a pirate attacks. When three pirates put their minds together, a lot of great things can happen.

Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant

Now that is a big green creature card. Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant clearly looks to end the game when it hits the battlefield by bringing with it every other creature in your hand.

Coercive Portal

Along with Standard legal cards, inside boxes of Lost Caverns of Ixalan will be special Treasure Trove cards. These cards won’t be Standard legal, but do feature powerful cards with new art that are perfect for collectors and multiplayer players alike.

Lord of Atlantis

What is a set with merfolk without the head honcho? Lord of Atlantis is one of the few “Special Guests” that will make an appearance in packs of Lost Caverns of Ixalan.

Mana Crypt

As if this set wasn’t sweet enough, Wizards decided to add one of the most powerful mana-rocks printed. Take a look at the Ixalan-inspired Mana Crypt.

And you know that had to give it that special Cosmium treatment.
